Our faculty and students are dedicated to applying vanguard theoretical, computational, and empirical methods to answer questions of general economic research and policy interest. The Department of Economics is housed within the <a href=\"https://www.sas.upenn.edu/\">School of Arts & Sciences</a>, which is comprised of <a href=\"https://www.sas.upenn.edu/departments/\">28 academic departments</a>, the <a href=\"https://www.college.upenn.edu/\">College of Arts and Sciences</a>, the <a href=\"https://www.sas.upenn.edu/graduate/\">Graduate Division</a>, and the <a href=\"https://www.lps.upenn.edu/\">College of Liberal and Professional Studies</a>. Interdisciplinary research and collaboration are supported by the <a href=\"https://www.hr.upenn.edu/PennHR/careers-at-penn/penn''s-schools-and-centers\"> breadth and depth of academic pursuits at Penn</a> as well as the proximity of resources on our contiguous <a href=\"https://facilities.upenn.edu/services/landscape\">green urban campus</a> in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. We promote and encourage curiosity, intellectual engagement, and discovery among all our students and faculty, and <a href=\"https://economics.sas.upenn.edu/about/department-economics-code-conduct\"> strive to create a friendly and inclusive work environment for all.</a> University, School, and departmental resources that support our efforts include but are not limited to: Penn Institute of Economic Research (<a href=\"https://economics.sas.upenn.edu/pier\">PIER</a>), the Offices of the <a href=\"https://faculty.upenn.edu/\">Vice Provost for Faculty</a> and <a href=\"https://research.upenn.edu/\">Vice Provost for Research</a>, <a href=\"https://global.upenn.edu/\">Penn Global</a>, <a href=\"https://wellness.upenn.edu/\">Wellness at Penn</a>, the <a href=\"https://ctl.upenn.edu/\">Center for Teaching and Learning</a>, the <a href=\"https://curf.upenn.edu/\">Penn Center for Undergraduate Research and Fellowships</a>, and <a href=\"https://www.hr.upenn.edu/\">Penn Human Resources.</a><br> <br> The department offers two majors, an <a href=\"https://economics.sas.upenn.edu/undergraduate/majors-and-minors/economics-major\"> economics major</a> as well as a <a href=\"https://economics.sas.upenn.edu/undergraduate/majors-and-minors/mathematical-economics-major\"> mathematical economics</a> <a href=\"https://economics.sas.upenn.edu/undergraduate/majors-and-minors/mathematical-economics-major\"> major</a>. The economics major provides students with an understanding of the modern discipline of Economics, and the mathematical economics major is designed for students with a strong interest in both economics and mathematics who will potentially consider pursuing a graduate degree. Combined, our two majors have consistently been the largest undergraduate major in the School of Arts and Sciences. Our vibrant <a href=\"https://economics.sas.upenn.edu/graduate\">Ph.D. program</a> houses about 100 students from across the globe. Our graduate students often go on to become assistant professors in research universities and liberal arts colleges, or to work in government agencies or the private sector.<br> <br> We seek candidates who share our strong commitment to research, teaching and mentoring, and to a scholarly community shaped by values of inclusive excellence.
