China National Center for Bioinformation Announces Global Recruitment for High-Level Talents

China National Center for Bioinformation (CNCB) is entrusted with the strategic mission of unified deposition, centralized archiving, security governance, and open sharing of China's big bioinformatics data, supporting life science research and biomedical applications. The Center has established a technical platform covering the full data lifecycle—data production, collection, archiving, management, and utilization. The total data volume exceeds 105 PB, supporting data collection and submission for more than 40,000 research projects. The independently developed Genome Sequence Archive (GSA) has been listed as a Global Core Biodata Resource (GCBR). Together with the US NCBI and the European EBI, CNCB jointly provides data collection and curation support services for global biological sciences and life & health sciences.

To further enhance intelligent data processing capabilities and knowledge services, the Center is transitioning from a data center toward an intelligent and knowledge-driven center. CNCB now seeks applications from high level professionals worldwide in relevant fields.

I. Recruitment Directions

• Biological Big Data: data governance, knowledge mining, multi-omics data integration, etc.
• Tools and Algorithms: sequence analysis, structure prediction, single-cell and spatial omics algorithms, population cohort analysis methods, etc.
• Artificial Intelligence: biological large models, deep neural networks, explainable AI, agent technologies, etc.

II. Disciplinary Backgrounds Related to Artificial Intelligence

The Center focuses on the deep integration of AI and life sciences. Researchers and engineers with backgrounds in the following disciplines are of particular interest:

• Foundational Disciplines: mathematics (algebra, geometry, probability theory, optimization theory), statistics, theoretical physics, theory of computation.
• Cutting-edge Disciplines: deep learning theory, generative models, graph neural networks, reinforcement learning, self-supervised learning, large model architecture and compression, explainable AI, causal inference, neuromorphic computing.
• Interdisciplinary Disciplines: bioinformatics, computational biology, genomics and epigenomics, single-cell and spatial omics, structural biology, chemical biology, medical imaging and clinical informatics, cognitive science and neuroscience.

Applicants are not required to be proficient in all areas, but should have a solid foundation in one or two of the above fields and demonstrate the ability to engage in cross-disciplinary collaboration.

III. Positions and Qualifications

(I) Distinguished Researcher / Senior Scientist

Internationally recognized scholar with systematic and original achievements in bioinformatics, genomics, or artificial intelligence.

Served as a professor or held an equivalent position at a well established overseas institution (exceptionally outstanding candidates at associate professor level may be considered); applicants based in China should be established academic leaders.

Able to lead major research projects; Generally with the age under 50.

Background in mathematics or physics is preferred for AI-related positions.

(II) Young Scientist

Holder of a Ph.D. degree with notable research achievements and clear potential for further development.

Generally at least 36 consecutive months of formal teaching or research experience at overseas universities, research institutions, or corporate R&D centers (this requirement may be appropriately relaxed for overseas Ph.D. graduates with outstanding achievements).

Generally with the age under 40.

Background in mathematics or physics is preferred for AI-related positions.

(III) Postdoctoral Fellow

Ph.D. degree obtained within the past three years; generally with age under 35.

Research areas: biology, mathematics, computer science, medicine, or related fields.

(IV) Other Positions

Data scientists, senior engineers, assistant researchers, etc., with relevant research backgrounds.

IV. Compensation and Support

• Internationally competitive salary and benefits.

• Assistance in building teams, including dedicated personnel assistance for recruitment.
• Support in applying for various research and talent projects.
• Provision of transitional housing or housing subsidies, assistance with Beijing household registration (hukou) and children’s school enrollment.
• Exceptional outstanding or urgently needed talents will be considered on a case-by-case basis with additional support.

The Center is located in the Olympic Science and Technology Park of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, adjacent to the Olympic Forest Park. On-site facilities include a café, gym, table tennis room, etc., providing a favorable working and living environment.
