  • Indonesia has the world's fourth largest child population.UNICEF's presence in the country means we have the potential toimpact more than 80 million children. We take this responsibilityseriously and are committed to ensuring that children andadolescents - the building blocks of Indonesia's future - have anequal chance in life.

Context:

  • The fundamental mission of UNICEF is to promote the rights ofevery child, everywhere, in everything the organization does— in programmes, in advocacy and in operations. The equitystrategy, emphasizing the most disadvantaged and excluded childrenand families, translates this commitment to children's rights intoaction. For UNICEF, equity means that all children have anopportunity to survive, develop and reach their full potential, without discrimination, bias or favoritism. To the degree that anychild has an unequal chance in life — in its social, political, economic, civic and cultural dimensions — her orhis rights are violated.
  • The UNICEF Indonesia Country Office (ICO) works to advance therights of children across six core programme areas: nutrition, health, water and sanitation, child protection, social policy, andeducation, supported by cross-cutting priorities including climatechange, disability inclusion, and gender equality. Within thisframework, the Nutrition Section supports the Government ofIndonesia to design and implement evidence-based programmes toprevent all forms of child malnutrition, including undernutrition(stunting and wasting), micronutrient deficiencies, and overweightand obesity.
  • In its Country Programme 2026-2030, the Nutrition Section ofUNICEF Indonesia aims to support the government in reducing thetriple burden of malnutrition through three key outputs supportedby four programme pillars. First, UNICEF works with national andsubnational governments and partners to strengthen capacities forevidence-based planning, budgeting, monitoring, and evaluation ofmultisectoral nutrition programmes. Second, it supports thestrengthening of multisectoral nutrition programmes and foodsystems to deliver equitable, gender- and age-responsive nutritionservices for mothers, infants, young children, and adolescents.Third, UNICEF promotes evidence-informed social and behaviourchange approaches so that parents, caregivers, children, andpregnant women adopt improved childcare and nutrition practices. These outputs are implemented through four programme pillars:children under-five and women's nutrition (including maternal, infant and young child nutrition - MIYCN), school-age children andadolescent nutrition, food systems, and nutrition and climatechange, alongside strengthened integrated management of acutemalnutrition (IMAM) to ensure comprehensive prevention andtreatment of malnutrition across the life course.
  • UNICEF Indonesia has four field offices located in Surabaya,Jayapura, Kupang, and Ambon, which support programme implementationacross different regions of the country. The Jayapura Field Office, work with provincial and district governments and partners toadvance programmes that improve the health, nutrition, education, protection, and overall well-being of children. It provides supportacross the Papua region, primarily covering the provinces of Papua,South Papua, West Papua, and Southwest Papua.
