Position Overview:

ADJUNCT FACULTY POSITION IN BIOLOGY

CELL BIOLOGY & BIOCHEMISTRY

The Department of Biology at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) invites outstanding applicants for an

adjunct position to teach BIO 211: Cell Biology and Biochemistry during the Fall 2026 semester

starting on August 25, 2026. This course is an introduction to the nomenclature, origin, and function of

essential molecules, biochemical pathways, and cellular components of living organisms, presented in the

context of evolution. Laboratory activities emphasize the fundamental tools and approaches used,

including biochemical techniques and microscopy, to ask questions about protein function at the cellular

level, as explored with the scientific method. There is a course and lab coordinator and common

curriculum for this course. Teaching materials are available for lecture and lab. The course is scheduled

for Tuesday and Friday 8:00am – 9:20am (lecture) with labs on Tuesday and Friday from 9:30am –

12:20pm. Applicants should send a cover letter that addresses the applicant's teaching philosophy, a

current CV, and names and contact information for three references via email to department chair, Dr.

Wendy Clement (clementw@tcnj.edu) as soon as possible.

Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Employment is contingent upon completion of a

successful background check. The successful applicant must present proof of eligibility to work in the

United States.

About TCNJ

Founded in 1855, TCNJ is a selective public institution that has earned national recognition for its

commitment to excellence. TCNJ enrolls approximately 8,200 students, including 7,433 undergraduates

and 855 graduate students, 27% of whom are self-described as members of groups traditionally underrepresented in academe. Strong curricular and co-curricular programming have helped foster a first-

year to sophomore retention rate of 89.7%, a 4-year graduation rate of 74% and a 6-year graduation rate of 85% (among the highest in the country). Five signature experiences are the hallmark of a TCNJ

education: a personalized, collaborative, and rigorous education; undergraduate research, mentored

internships, and field experiences; community engaged learning; global engagement; and leadership development. TCNJ has also received national recognition for the adoption and promotion of the teacher-

scholar model for our faculty. A strong liberal arts core forms the foundation for programs offered through TCNJ's seven academic schools—Arts and Communication; Business; Education; Engineering;

Humanities and Social Sciences; Nursing and Health Sciences; and Science. TCNJ has a strong Phi Beta

Kappa chapter—an honor shared by less than 10 percent of colleges and universities nationally. TCNJ is

the proud recipient of an Inclusive Excellence grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI),

which supports our work to provide access and foster success for all students studying science and math,

especially those traditionally underserved by STEM and higher education. TCNJ has also been a recipient

of a National Science Foundation (NSF) ADVANCE grant, which has worked to support the careers of

women faculty members in STEM disciplines. TCNJ is located within an hour of New York City and

Philadelphia. The College's campus is set on 289 tree-lined acres in suburban Ewing Township and is

known for its natural beauty. For more information, visit www.tcnj.edu.

To enrich education through diversity, TCNJ is an Equal Opportunity Employer. TCNJ has a strong

commitment to inclusive excellence and to achieve diversity among faculty and staff. We strongly

encourage a host of diverse, intersectional populations and cultures to apply including, but not limited to,

identities based on race, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, disability, national origin,

and veteran status.

Persons with disabilities may request reasonable accommodations in order to perform the essential functions of the position. If the requested accommodation(s) cannot be made because it would cause the employer undue hardship, the applicant may not be eligible for the position.

Employer Qualifications

Employment at TCNJ is contingent upon the successful completion of an applicable background check, reference checks, and verification of identity and authorization to work in the United States (Form I-9).

Accommodation: Applicants who require a reasonable accommodation to apply or interview should contact hr@tcnj.edu .

How to Apply

Qualified candidates should apply online and submit a letter of interest, resume (CV), as well as the names and contact information for three professional references. Applications will be considered until a viable finalist has been found.

The College is committed to fostering a welcoming and inclusive campus community that respects and uplifts individuals from all backgrounds. We value the varied perspectives, experiences, and talents of all members of our community and strive to create an environment where everyone has equitable access to opportunities for success. As an equal opportunity employer, we comply with all applicable federal and state laws regarding nondiscrimination and affirmative action. We encourage applications from individuals whose lived experiences and professional interests align with our institutional mission of academic excellence, access, and integrity.
