The Department of Robotics (ROB) of the Faculty of Information Science and Computing (FIC) invites applications for the position of Full/Associate/Assistant Professor in Robotics. This recruitment supports the launch of a new Bachelor of Science in Robotics programme, designed to develop future leaders equipped with interdisciplinary expertise, hands-on proficiency, innovative problem-solving skills, a strong sense of ethical and social responsibility, and readiness for lifelong career success.
As part of a strategic expansion, UM recently established five science and technology faculties through the restructuring of part of its existing faculties. In which, the FIC emerges from a thoughtful and forward-looking reorganization of the former Faculty of Science and Technology, reflecting our university’s commitment to sharper academic focus, greater interdisciplinary synergy, and a more agile response to the rapidly evolving landscape of information science and intelligent technologies. The Faculty brings together six interconnected departments—Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Electronic and Communication Engineering, Microelectronics, Robotics, and FinTech & Business Intelligence.
The Department of ROB currently has 12 academic staff, which focuses on core scientific challenges and leading-edge advancements in intelligent machine design, autonomous control, and human-robot collaboration. It provides a solid theoretical and engineering foundation for innovation and technological applications in various fields, including industrial, service, medical, underwater, and specialized robots, as well as soft and micro/nano robots, and swarm intelligence.
Qualifications
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. Preference will be given to candidates with research and teaching experience at the tertiary education level. To align with future development goals, preference will also be given to candidates specializing in frontier robotics technologies. Specific fields include, but are not limited to: (1) Embodied AI and Machine Learning for Robotics; (2) Multi-Robot Systems; (3) Human–Robot Interaction; and (4) Robot Perception and Sensor Fusion.
The selected candidate is expected to assume duty in January 2027 and the position will be open until filled.
Remuneration
A taxable annual remuneration starting from MOP1,250,200 (approximately USD154,350) for the position of Full Professor, MOP1,052,800 (approximately USD129,980) for the position of Associate Professor and MOP855,400 (approximately USD105,600) for the position of Assistant Professor will be commensurate with the successful applicants’ academic qualification and relevant professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% - 7% after various discretionary exemptions.
