Job details
In September 2025, Faculty of Bioenvironmental Sciences, Kyoto University of Advanced Science (KUAS) began a new educational course to develop international students who can play an active role solving various global issues across life, environmental, agricultural and food science fields worldwide. During its first two years, the program attracted more than 100 international students from approximately 25 countries.
Department of Environmental and Bioresource Sciences, Faculty of Bioenvironmental Sciences, KUAS is now seeking a qualified faculty member who can give several lectures （some common subjects of the course, and specialized subjects related to environmental science) and basic experimental courses related to environmental science in English in the faculty and the graduate school, as well as supervise graduation research, including industry placement programs for international students. The faculty member also serves as the homeroom teacher for international students and handles faculty duties.
The successful candidate is expected to engage in basic or applied research in fields such as microbial ecology, environmental microbiology, and soil microbiology, with relevance to life, agriculture, and the environment.
Qualifications
Education and Degree Requirements
Ph.D. / Doctor
An earned or expected earned doctoral degree by the time of appointment.
Work Experience
- Sufficient capacity and experience in advancing education and research for students, including graduate students in the above educational course.
- Promising excellence in producing outstanding research results in the fields mentioned above.
- An earned or expected earned doctoral degree by the time of appointment.
- Ability to assume academic responsibilities in English or both in English and Japanese.
Starting date
The starting date will be as early as possible on or after April 1, 2027.

- Working hours, holidays will be determined in accordance with the regulations of KUAS.

Working conditions
Appointment level to be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Annual salary and other benefits are specified in the regulations of KUAS.
Compensation
The insurance will be determined in accordance with the regulations of KUAS.

- A4 size one-page essay that demonstrates an applicant’s experience in teaching and expresses his/her aspirations for promoting quality education at KUAS.
- Two letters of professional recommendation from individuals who know the applicant well, and is in a good position to evaluate and judge his/her level of excellence and accomplishment both in teaching and research.

Selection
