Job Description:
Assists the professional nurse in creating a milieu therapeutic for hospitalized patients with behavioral/emotional disturbance.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education / Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
- Graduate from an approved school with an Associate Degree in Mental Health Technology or two years of college in Psychology or related field.
- BLS required.
- Demonstrates proficient interviewing techniques and empathic interactions appropriate to the emotional wellbeing of the patient.
- Ability to plan and organize work and to work under close supervision. Willingness to accept responsibility for patients and their care when performing designated functions of this position.
- May be required to rotate shifts and units.
- Physical requirements:
- visual acuity of 20/20 or corrected to 20/20 including color vision when applicable;
- ability to hear (with or without aides);
- ability to orally communicate;
- good manual dexterity;
- ability to push, pull, roll, and transfer/lift 50 pounds occasionally;
- ability to stand, walk frequently;
- ability to bend, reach, stoop, kneel frequently;
- ability to perform CPR; and
- must be able to physically hold and restrain patients.
