FAQ about Assistant Professor Call
In Swedish, the position is referred to as biträdande universitetslektor. It is in many respects comparable to the US position of Assistant Professor and can also be translated as Associate Senior Lecturer.
The position is a fixed-term academic appointment designed to support the transition to research independence. It includes independent research, teaching, and collaboration, with clearly defined criteria for potential promotion to a permanent Senior Lecturer position.
In the employment contract, the position will be referred to as Associate Senior Lecturer.
These positions are not tenure-track in the US sense, but they do include a formal and well-established process for promotion. As an assistant professor, you may apply for promotion to a permanent position as Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer. You will undergo an evaluation to determine whether you meet the faculty’s requirements for appointment.
See the job advertisement for the relevant position for more information about promotion.
The positions are full-time, fixed-term appointments of five years.
You are expected to develop an independent research program and actively build collaborations. The University offers a strong research environment, but establishing networks and partnerships is part of the role.
For most positions, this is not a requirement. Read each position carefully to see what is expected of you.
Applications are submitted through the University of Gothenburg’s recruitment system. Create an account, complete the application form and upload the required documents before the application deadline.
For detailed guidance on the application process and recruitment procedure, see How to apply for a position.
