About The Role
Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Nanofabrication
Faculty of Environment, Science and Economy
This full-time QuIMS (Quantum Information with Mechanical Systems) funded post is available for a fixed term of two years from December 2026. The role is based at the University of Exeter.
The starting salary will be from £44,352 up to £46,970 per annum on Grade F, depending on knowledge, skills and experience.
The Role
The Faculty wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Fellow for QuIMS (Quantum Information with Mechanical Systems), a collaborative project exploring mechanical systems for quantum technologies. Working with Prof. Saverio Russo, you will fabricate nanoscale devices using the University’s cleanroom and characterisation facilities.
The post focuses on device design, electron-beam lithography, deposition, etching, material transfer and suspended structures. You will optimise process flows, characterise devices and improve fabrication yield and reproducibility, keeping clear process records and collaborating with experimental and theoretical colleagues.
About You
You will possess a relevant PhD or equivalent qualification/experience in physics, materials science or engineering, with hands-on cleanroom nanofabrication experience. You will be able to develop fabrication methods, assess device quality and analyse results, with a record of high-quality research publications.
Experience in fabrication of suspended graphene or van der Waals heterostructures is preferred.
You will plan and deliver research, communicate clearly, collaborate and support less experienced researchers. You will contribute to publications, presentations and proposals, and demonstrate a commitment to safe laboratory practice and an inclusive working environment.
Please ensure you read the Job Description and Person Specification for full details of this role.
