Become part of the University of Freiburg, one of Germany’s most prestigious and research-intensive universities – with a unique diversity and interplay of disciplines and perspectives in one of the most popular cities in the heart of Europe.
The University of Freiburg‘s human resources policy is oriented toward the principles of equal opportunity and diversity. The university is committed to the goal of creating a family-friendly university.
The Faculty of Mathematics and Physics at the Institute of Physics is offering a
W3 professorship for Experimental Physics of Soft Condensed Matter
Far from Equilibrium
(successor to Prof. Reiter)
Full-time position; Start-date: The earliest possible time/date.
The professorship is based at the Institute of Physics of the University of Freiburg and strengthens experimental research in the field of non-equilibrium physics of soft condensed matter. The aim is to make fundamental physical mechanisms of complex dynamical systems experimentally accessible and to promote exchange between theory and experiment.
The successful candidate will investigate the properties, dynamics, and control of soft and complex materials far from equilibrium. The focus is on phenomena such as self-organization, nonlinear dynamics, collective behaviour, and emergent structures under external driving or internal activity. To this end, innovative experimental approaches will be developed and applied to address fundamental questions in non-equilibrium physics using well-controlled model systems.
Applicants must hold an outstanding PhD in physics or a closely related field, demonstrate internationally visible scientific achievements in experimental physics of soft and complex systems, and have an excellent publication record. In addition, teaching experience and didactic aptitude, the ability to acquire competitive third-party funding, and the ability to establish and lead an independent research group are required.
In all other respects, the conditions for appointment according to § 47 Landeshochschulgesetz apply.
The professorship contributes fully to teaching in the B.Sc. programmes (taught in German) and M.Sc. programmes in Physics.
Active participation in collaborative research projects and research networks (e.g. livMatS, CIBSS) is part of the duties of the professorship.
The University of Freiburg offers an excellent research environment with strong links to ex- perimental and theoretical groups, outstanding opportunities for collaboration within EUCOR – The European Campus, and an attractive framework for establishing an internationally visible research programme.
We especially welcome female applicants for this advertised position.
The University supports those appointed through a dual career service and a family service.
We request for the following application materials:
- Resumé
- Certificates and diplomas
- Complete list of publications and lectures, listing the 5 most important publications.
- Research statement integrated within the University of Freiburg
- Teaching concept (1 page)
