How will you contribute?
The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology, in collaboration with ArcelorMittal, is offering a postdoctoral research position focused on the development of advanced analytical and modelling approaches for recycled steels. The project addresses major scientific and industrial challenges related to the decarbonisation of the steel industry and the increasing use of steel scrap in future low-carbon steel production routes.
As a postdoctoral researcher, you will contribute to the development of innovative methodologies aimed at improving the understanding of residual elements in recycled steels and their impact on steel properties and industrial processes. Working at the interface between advanced characterization, metallurgy, and industrial applications, you will help generate new scientific knowledge supporting the decarbonisation and circularity of the steel industry.
Your main contributions will include:
- Developing and implementing advanced analytical methodologies based on NanoSIMS TEM and EBSD in close collaboration with the LIST research team to advance the current state of the art;
- Optimizing raw data processing, analysis, and interpretation workflows for complex materials characterization datasets;
- Contributing to the modelling and understanding of metallurgical phenomena related to residual element segregation and interactions;
- Supporting the transfer of research outcomes toward practical industrial applications by adapting analytical results to operational and process-related needs.
While the researcher will be mainly hosted at LIST, regular interactions and research activities at ArcelorMittal will ensure strong integration with industrial challenges and applications.
You will also actively contribute to scientific publications, conference presentations, and knowledge dissemination activities, while gaining valuable experience in collaborative research between academia and industry.
