Research Fellow in Civil Engineering
The University of South Wales seeks a highly motivated Research Fellow for a full-time position in Civil or Materials Engineering. This role is funded by the Switch to Net Zero Buildings (SNZB) PBIAA grant via UKRI EPSRC for the project: "Accelerating Net-Zero Construction in the Swansea Bay City Region: Validation and Industrial Scale-up of Low-Carbon Building Components Using Local Waste-Derived Materials".
The post holder will bridge the "translation gap" between laboratory innovation and industrial adoption. Working closely with industrial partner Carapace Slate Ltd, you will investigate ultra low-carbon roofing and façade products using regionally relevant waste materials, such as waste derived aggregates.
The Post holder will investigate the rheological and curing behaviour of low-carbon formulations, assess the impact of waste aggregate variability, and establish validated processing envelopes for repeatable automated manufacturing. Responsibilities include producing demonstrator components, adoption-ready datasets, high-quality publications and grant proposals. The post holder should hold a PhD in Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering or a related discipline, with resin, cement and concrete knowledge and experience desirable, alongside good communication and networking skills for collaboration with partners.
This is a full-time, fixed-term position based at the Pontypridd Campus.
We welcome applications from the UK and worldwide; consideration is subject to relevant UK Visas & Immigration permissions.
