About us

King’s Smart Trials Hub (STH) is a globally distinctive multi-omics centre, located at Guy’s Hospital campus within Research Infrastructure, part of Research Management and Innovation Directorate at King’s College London.

The Hub brings together state-of-the-art spatial and non-spatial ‘omics’ technologies to enable full molecular profiling of cells, tissues and liquid biopsies and leverages advanced, multi-modal technologies to investigate disease biology at high resolution, supporting the equitable development of personalised therapies.

About the role

The Senior Computational Biologist is part of a highly collaborative and inclusive team. The role leads on developing and optimising analysis pipelines and integration for multi-omic data generated from bulk and spatial transcriptomics and proteomics, as well as spatial metabolomic, lipidomic, peptide/protein and metallomic mass spectrometry.

The role requires a strong background in statistical methods and machine-learning tools with experience of programming (such as Python) being desirable.

Reporting to the Smart Trials Hub Manager, you will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to deliver a high-quality research service to both academic and commercial customers.

This is a full-time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract. This is an onsite, facility-based role and the post holder is expected to be on campus for the full working week.

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  1. PhD in relevant subject area, or equivalent experience gained in a research setting
  2. Significant post-doctoral experience or equivalent industry experience (typically three years or more) in omics analysis, including spatial omics
  3. Strong programming skills, with experience using Python or relevant programming language for data analysis
  4. Expertise in multi-omics data integration and statistical modelling, applied to complex biological datasets
  5. Experience working with high-performance computing (HPC) environments
  6. Experience of working to quality assurance and quality control standards within a laboratory or research environment, ensuring data integrity and reproducibility across workflows
  7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex analytical concepts clearly to a range of audiences, including through reports, publications and presentations.
  8. Experience working collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams and at the interface between biological data, biologists and data scientists/software engineers

Desirable criteria

  1. Practical experience using machine-learning tools and frameworks for biological or biomedical data analysis
  2. Experience working with human tissue and clinical data, including an understanding of relevant governance or data protection considerations
  3. Experience developing computational tools or workflows to support data management, analysis and reproducibility
  4. Experience of delivering technical training or hands-on support to researchers or colleagues
