2026-2027 CORNELL INFORMATION SCIENCE TENURE-TRACK FACULTY SEARCH, NEW YORK CITY CAMPUS
The Cornell University Department of Information Science (IS) in the Ann S. Bowers College of Computing and Information Science has tenure-track and tenured faculty positions available. The IS department spans Cornell’s Ithaca and New York City campuses where nearly 40 faculty members are leaders in their respective fields within Information Science's interdisciplinary structure.
We are interested in applications from researchers in any of the broad research areas of the department (see https://infosci.cornell.edu/research). This year, we are particularly interested in candidates whose research explores the role of computing and AI within the focal areas of health and medicine; human and technical dimensions of trust, safety, and security; and the design, application, and governance of technology in urban environments. Outstanding applicants outside these areas may also be considered. In each domain, we seek candidates who bring a range of methodological approaches to bear on research problems, including the design, building, development, theoretical analysis, and application of computing and AI systems to address needs, as well as social science methods to investigate interactions between people and systems within these domains.
Faculty hired for this Cornell Tech campus search will have their teaching and research based at the Cornell Tech campus in New York City. Cornell Tech is a research and graduate education campus of Cornell University located on Roosevelt Island. In addition to world-class academic research, a distinguishing characteristic of our work is that it engages deeply with external communities, organizations, and industry to address real-world problems and contexts that amplify the direct societal and commercial impact of our research. Hubs in Health Tech, Urban Tech, and Public Interest Tech exemplify this approach, bringing together researchers, practitioners and communities to collaborate.
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree by August 2027. Candidates should submit a cover letter, a curriculum vitae (CV), a research statement, a teaching statement, and the names of at least three people who will provide reference letters. The cover letter and research statement should highlight up to three of the candidate’s most significant pieces of work for consideration. In addition, candidates should submit an external engagement statement that addresses prior accomplishments and future plans related to the commercial and/or broader public engagement and societal impact dimensions of their research and teaching.
