The Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University (ASU) and the School of Computing and Augmented Intelligence (SCAI) seek applicants for the Tooker Chair, an endowed tenured faculty position in Future of Educational Technologies. SCAI (https://scai.engineering.asu.edu/), one of the eight Fulton Schools, houses a vibrant Industrial Engineering and Computer Science Engineering research community (learn more at https://research.engineering.asu.edu/). We seek a recognized scholar and leader whose work is shaping the future of learning through the design, development, and evaluation of emerging technologies that improve teaching and learning. We are particularly interested in scholarship that explores how artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies are changing how people learn, what they need to learn, and how learning is designed, delivered, and assessed. Relevant areas include, but are not limited to:

  • Artificial intelligence (AI) in education and intelligent tutoring systems
  • Generative AI and human-AI collaboration for learning
  • Learning analytics and educational data mining
  • Adaptive and personalized learning environments

  • Computer-supported collaborative learning
  • Educational applications of natural language processing, multimodal computing, games, virtual or augmented reality, and robotics
  • Learning engineering and experimentation at scale
  • Computing and data-science education
  • Accessible, inclusive, and culturally responsive learning technologies

ASU offers a distinctive environment in which to develop, deploy, and rigorously evaluate innovations in learning across disciplines, modalities, and educational settings at meaningful scale. The Tooker Chair will have opportunities to leverage that environment to advance both foundational scholarship and consequential innovation in education.

  • Build partnerships with schools, universities, community organizations, government agencies, or educational-technology organizations
  • Translate research into broadly usable systems, datasets, platforms, policies, or educational practices with demonstrable impact at meaningful scale

We also search for applicants who will contribute to our academic programs, promote transdisciplinary teaching and research, and help the university to achieve its aspirations, including enabling student success, transforming society, valuing entrepreneurship, and conducting use-inspired research. Faculty members in the Fulton Schools are expected to develop an internationally recognized and externally funded research program, adopt effective pedagogical practices in the development and delivery of undergraduate and graduate courses, advise both undergraduate and graduate student research and projects, and undertake service activities.
