Robert. H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center
The Division of Hematology/Oncology in the Department of Medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center invites applications from outstanding scientists and physician-scientists to join an expanding, highly collaborative lung cancer research program.
We seek creative and ambitious investigators pursuing innovative research in fundamental cancer biology and translational oncology, with the goal of advancing our understanding of cancer and developing new therapeutic strategies. Areas of interest include cancer cell biology, tumor evolution and plasticity, metastasis, tumor microenvironment, cancer immunology, genomics, epigenetics, metabolism, therapeutic resistance, computational oncology, and experimental therapeutics. Investigators whose research has the potential to advance the understanding and treatment of solid tumors, particularly thoracic malignancies, are especially encouraged to apply. Prior experience in lung cancer research is not required.
The appointment will be on the Investigator: Scientist or Investigator: Physician-Scientist track at the tenure-eligible Assistant or Associate Professor rank, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Research will constitute the majority of the successful candidate's effort, with opportunities for teaching, mentorship, and clinical activity for qualified physician-scientists. Candidates pursuing clinical responsibilities must meet applicable Illinois medical licensure and board certification requirements. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
Qualifications
Applicants must hold an MD, PhD, or MD/PhD degree and demonstrate a strong record of scientific accomplishment, originality, and potential for independent investigation. For candidates transitioning from postdoctoral training to their first faculty appointment, particular emphasis will be placed on the significance of their research contributions, creativity, and vision for an independent research program. Candidates at the Associate Professor level should have an established record of independent research accomplishments and external funding.
Research Environment
The successful candidate will join a vibrant scientific community that integrates fundamental discovery, mechanistic investigation, translational research, and clinical oncology, with extensive opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration and translation of laboratory discoveries into novel therapies and clinical trials.
Northwestern offers a highly supportive environment for launching and sustaining an independent research career, including a competitive start-up package, protected research time, strong mentorship, and comprehensive career development support. Investigators will have access to state-of-the-art research facilities, advanced genomic and molecular technologies, outstanding graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, and collaborative research programs across Northwestern's Chicago and Evanston campuses.
The Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center provides a highly collaborative setting that brings together laboratory scientists, computational researchers, translational investigators, and clinical oncologists to advance discoveries into meaningful improvements in cancer care.
Application Process
Interested candidates should submit a curriculum vitae and cover letter describing their research accomplishments, future research vision, and alignment with the Thoracic Oncology Research Program. Applications and inquiries should be directed to:
