The University of Salford’s ambition is to collaboratively develop and deliver real-world impactful research and education that helps shape a fairer, more inclusive and sustainable society and economy. We are seeking an outstanding academic leader to join Salford Business School as a Professor (0.2 FTE until 31/07/2028), providing intellectual leadership, research excellence and external engagement within one or more areas of strategic importance, including circular economy, sustainable business, digital transformation, and the opportunities created at the intersection of these fields.
Salford Business School is part of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Humanities and the Arts for People and the Economy (SHAPE) and offers a vibrant international community of innovative and entrepreneurial scholars, industrial and policy partners, students, and a remarkable global network of accomplished alumni. We are redefining business and management education and its role in shaping sustainable futures through investment in research, education and innovation, building powerful interdisciplinary collaborations across business and management disciplines.
We particularly welcome applications from scholars whose research addresses major societal and organisational challenges associated with sustainability transitions, circular economy innovation, responsible digital transformation, data-driven business models, supply chains, entrepreneurship, organisational change and emerging technologies. We are equally interested in candidates whose work explores how digital technologies can enable more sustainable and circular business practices, or how sustainability imperatives are reshaping the future of organisations, industries and economies.
Our collaborative research community is growing at pace through industry collaborations, Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs), research partnerships, international exchange opportunities and outreach activities. Our community values and commitment to innovation for people and planet are deeply rooted in long-standing social, industrial and public-sector ties at regional, national and international levels. This provides a powerful platform from which you can lead the collaborative co-design of ambitious research programmes that push the boundaries of knowledge and deliver real-world impact.
You will join a research environment that is committed to generating impactful knowledge and practical solutions for contemporary business and societal challenges. This includes contributing to, and shaping, interdisciplinary research agendas spanning sustainable business futures, circular economy, digital transformation and innovation, working closely with academic colleagues, industry partners, policymakers and communities.
Our research is also transforming how we teach as we embed our cutting-edge research into our curriculum. We equip our students with critical transferable skills, developed using cutting-edge digital learning and carbon literacy tools and mobilised through active blended learning pedagogies, positioning them to become future leaders and collaborators of choice. You will have the opportunity to innovate curricula, embedding your team’s research insights into innovative and urgently needed education programmes.
Your research leadership will be supported by our knowledge exchange expertise. Our Centre for Sustainable Innovation (CSI) catalyses knowledge exchange and collaborative research between scholars, policymakers and industry, empowering sustainable business transformation and positioning Salford Business School amongst the UK's leading institutions for SME engagement. As a Small Business Charter-accredited School, we are proud to work in partnership with a wide range of regional businesses, from SMEs to multinationals, supporting sustainable growth and productivity across Greater Manchester and beyond.
We welcome applications from collaborative, creative and ambitious scholars who recognise the value of interdisciplinary working and are eager to contribute to a thriving research community. Whether your expertise lies primarily within circular economy, sustainability, digital transformation, business innovation, or across these domains, this role offers an opportunity to shape research, education and impact at regional, national and international levels.
