Job Description

The Department of Chemistry & Physics at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Analytical and Forensic Chemistry position beginning August 2027.

Position Responsibilities

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching, student mentoring, and scholarly activity. Responsibilities include:

1. Teaching undergraduate courses in analytical chemistry (lecture and laboratory), instrumental analysis, forensic chemistry, general chemistry, and other courses that support departmental needs and align with the candidate’s expertise.
2. Developing and maintaining an active research program that provides hands-on research opportunities for undergraduate students.
3. Overseeing, maintaining, and integrating modern analytical instrumentation into teaching and research activities.
4. Contributing to departmental, university, and professional service activities.
5. Demonstrating a commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment and supporting the academic success of students from diverse backgrounds.

Qualifications

Required

1. Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry or a closely related field.
2. Academic preparation and expertise sufficient to teach undergraduate analytical chemistry, forensic chemistry, and instrumental analysis.
3. Demonstrated experience with the operation, maintenance, and application of modern analytical instrumentation.

Preferred

1. Prior undergraduate teaching experience.
2. Demonstrated commitment to effective teaching and mentoring of undergraduate students.
3. Willingness to develop forensic chemistry courses for chemistry majors and interdisciplinary forensic science courses for non-majors.
4. Experience incorporating undergraduate students into research activities.
