The Department of Mechanical Engineering in the College of Engineering at Cleveland State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position starting on August 16, 2027 as part of a multi-hiring initiative in advanced materials and manufacturing. The position is at the rank of Assistant Professor and focuses on advanced manufacturing, materials, and related technologies.

The successful candidate will develop an independent, externally funded research program and contribute to the TransDigm Advanced Manufacturing Center’s research enterprise. The position will also support CSU’s commitment to the NSF Engine NEO Smart and is intended to strengthen the University’s competitiveness for NEO Smart competitive grants and other external funding opportunities through research relevant to regional manufacturing needs and in collaboration with industry. The NSF NEO-SMART Engine is Northeast Ohio’s advanced-manufacturing coalition — 70+ partners building on the region’s strength in Advanced Materials and Manufacturing to make more of what America’s factories and defense depend on.

The faculty member will also teach undergraduate and graduate courses on-campus, mentor students, and contribute to manufacturing-related courses and microcredentials that prepare a skilled workforce. The position will also support curriculum development for a proposed Industrial and Manufacturing Program within the Mechanical Engineering Department. The faculty member is also expected to participate in service activities through committees, student organization advising, and professional activities outside the University.

This position requires teaching on-campus courses. In addition, you may be assigned to teach off campus, evenings, weekends, and via distance learning technology, depending upon student need for the delivery of instructional services.
