Hanover College invites applications for the position of Engineering Program Director to begin Fall 2027. The director will also hold the Gary and Judy Montgomery Endowed Professorship in Engineering. The position is tenure-eligible and rank at appointment will be based on qualifications and experience

The director is responsible for leading Hanover’s engineering program, which offers both an ABET-accredited BS in Engineering and a non ABET-accredited BA in Engineering Science. The program provides an opportunity for students to earn an engineering degree within the environment of a small college committed to providing excellent professional programs and a strong liberal arts experience. Our goal is to produce graduates who have the combination of technical and soft skills that today’s employers want.

In addition to teaching a variety of undergraduate courses, the director will:

  • be responsible for curriculum planning, staffing, and assessment
  • assist the college admissions staff in recruiting new students
  • aid the college’s advancement staff in fundraising
  • cultivate connections with engineering employers in the region
  • coordinate the program’s Engineering Advisory Board
  • facilitate the continuous improvement process for the ABET-accredited BS degree.

Qualifications:

  • A B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and earned Ph.D. in an Engineering field OR a Master’s degree in an engineering field accompanied and sufficiently qualified by education and experience to support ABET-accreditation requirements
  • Ability to teach a wide variety of undergraduate mechanical and general engineering courses and laboratories
  • Demonstrated capacity for visionary program leadership, regional industry partnership development, and undergraduate engineering education
  • Preference will be given to applicants with teaching experience, applicants who have a degree from or experience with a liberal arts college, and applicants with industry experience

Interested candidates should be committed to teaching at an institution where a broad liberal arts education is emphasized and should be prepared to develop research opportunities suitable for collaboration with undergraduate engineering majors.

Review of applications begins immediately and continues until the position is filled. Electronic applications should include an application letter stating why you are interested in Hanover College, a curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching philosophy, contact information for three professional references, and copies of transcripts. To apply and upload documents, visit https://www.hanover.edu/about/employment. Questions may be directed to Professor Tim Brooks, Chair, Engineering Search, c/o facultysearch@hanover.edu. References will be contacted directly at a later date.

About Hanover’s Engineering Program

Hanover College was authorized by the Higher Learning Commission to start offering degrees in Engineering in 2018 and subsequently received ABET accreditation. The program has produced 58 graduates who have been placed in a wide variety of engineering jobs or have gone on to pursue graduate degrees in Business, Electrical and Aerospace Engineering. Currently there are over 60 students either declared as Engineering majors or enrolled in pre-Engineering courses, and Engineering is among the top five most popular interest areas for entering students.

The program has 4700 ft2 of dedicated classroom and lab space in the college’s Science Hall. To learn more about the program go to: www.hanover.edu/academics/programs/engineering/.

Hanover College is a premier, nationally recognized liberal arts institution that has core strengths in the natural and life sciences, education, and business. Founded in 1827, Hanover is Indiana's oldest private, four-year college and sits on a beautiful 650-acre campus overlooking the Ohio River. Hanover's 1200 undergraduate and graduate students participate in a distinctive intellectual, challenging, and supportive community whose members value transformative learning, meaningful service, and lifelong inquiry. This fall the College posted record enrollment and the third largest entering class of first-year students in its history. Additions of Business, Engineering, and Nursing programs have attracted undergraduate students, and graduate programs in Physical and Occupational Therapy have boosted graduated enrollment. Madison bills itself as “Indiana’s Music City” with multiple live music venues and hosts several outdoor music festivals throughout the year. Madison’s downtown business district is one of the country’s largest National Historic Landmark Districts and was a 2024 Great American Main Street Award Winner. Madison is also home to a group of manufacturing companies that have consistently engaged with and supported our engineering students. To learn more about Madison go to http://www.visitmadison.org.

We strive to practice respect, compassion, and understanding for one another, so that all may participate in the open and free exchange of ideas necessary for a meaningful education and a successful democracy.
