Competitive Salary
Founded as a place of useful learning, the University of Strathclyde brings education, research and innovation together to make a practical difference. Our partnerships with industry, business and the public sector are central to who we are. As we deliver Strathclyde 2030, we’re seeking a Director of Digital and Information Services to shape how technology, data and information services support our ambitions and improve the experience of our students and staff.
Reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer, you’ll lead a directorate of approximately 200 colleagues, with an annual operating budget of around £22 million and capital investment in addition. Your remit will span IT and enterprise systems, cyber security, data and AI, Library services, archives and research information infrastructure. You’ll bring these services together around clear institutional priorities, combining reliable day-to-day delivery with a sustained programme of improvement.
Working closely with academic and professional services leaders, you’ll develop and deliver a university-wide digital, data and technology strategy. You’ll make clear choices about investment, modernise core systems and processes and strengthen our resilience. You’ll also help colleagues use AI, automation and trusted data effectively and responsibly, ensuring that change delivers demonstrable benefits for education, research and the way the University works. The Library’s contribution to learning, open research and access to knowledge will be an important part of your leadership.
We’re open to candidates from higher education, the wider public sector and the private sector. You’ll bring substantial experience of leading technology or information services and delivering organisational transformation in a large, complex organisation. You’ll have the technical understanding to challenge and support specialist teams, the judgement to balance investment and risk and a record of improving services within financial constraints. Just as important will be your ability to earn trust, build agreement across organisational boundaries and help people adopt new ways of working.
This is an opportunity to build on the knowledge and experience of a long-established team while encouraging fresh thinking about what’s possible. You’ll create an environment where colleagues feel confident to question familiar approaches, explore ideas and learn from elsewhere. We’re looking for someone who can generate enthusiasm for change and help people see how their expertise can shape the University’s future.
The closing date for applications is noon, Monday 23 November 2026
