About the role
As a Senior Research Degrees Officer, you will deliver a high-quality, responsive and accurate service to research degree students and staff. You will manage student records for a designated portfolio of faculties, ensuring accuracy, data integrity and compliance with UCL regulations and procedures.
Acting as a key point of contact, you will provide advice on research degree regulations, procedures and examinations, resolving complex cases and working with academic departments to promote consistent practice. Your responsibilities will cover the student lifecycle, including enrolment, progression, interruptions, transfers, withdrawals, thesis submissions and examiner appointments.
You will also contribute to data validation, reporting and quality assurance, support the production of official student documentation, and help improve service delivery. Working with the Research Degrees Manager, you will support enhancements to SITS/Portico, review processes, provide guidance and training, coordinate team activities and deputise for the manager when required.
About you
You will be an experienced higher education administrator with a sound understanding of the UK higher education sector, research degree administration and student records management. You will have experience using student information systems, ideally SITS/Portico, and interpreting complex regulations, including research degree examination procedures and the application of immigration legislation to student records. Experience handling confidential information and supervising or coordinating the work of others is also essential.
With excellent IT skills, including databases and spreadsheets, you will be confident extracting, analysing and presenting information. You will have strong organisational skills, the ability to manage competing priorities accurately under pressure, and excellent written and verbal communication skills to explain complex information clearly and diplomatically.
You will be collaborative, adaptable and proactive, able to work independently, build effective relationships and identify opportunities to improve processes. A commitment to continuous improvement, operational excellence and delivering a positive experience for UCL’s postgraduate research community is essential.
