We invite applicants for a Full Professor (tenured) position to join the faculty and serve as Chair of the Department of Developmental and Cell Biology in the Charlie Dunlop School of Biological Sciences. We seek an accomplished, nationally recognized researcher whose program falls broadly within, or bridges, developmental biology, cell biology, cancer cell biology, stem cell biology, regenerative biology, or developmental genomics. Priority will be given to candidates whose research complements and synergizes with that of existing department members and faculty in other departments at UCI.
The Chair will be a distinguished scientist who combines intellectual vision and a strong academic track record with the executive and administrative capabilities required to lead the Department. They will be expected to build upon its existing strengths to advance excellence in research and education, support the success of faculty and trainees, and foster effective integration and productive interactions with other departments and schools across UCI.
The Department of Developmental & Cell Biology (DCB; Department of Developmental and Cell Biology | UC Irvine BioSci) is dedicated to advancing knowledge of the fundamental mechanisms of developmental and cell biology through rigorous research and trainee development. The Department currently has 26 primary faculty whose research spans interconnected themes. Its faculty are recognized nationally and internationally, with members honored as Fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), Pew Scholars and Searle Scholars, among other distinctions.
DCB sits at the heart of a vibrant, collaborative research ecosystem at UCI. Faculty members hold appointments and active partnerships with the Sue & Bill Gross Stem Cell Research Center, the Center for Complex Biological Systems, and the NCI-designated Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center
amongst others. Together with outstanding shared core facilities in genomics and bioinformatics, advanced optical imaging, and transgenic models, these connections give faculty and trainees an integrated environment for discovery, from molecular mechanism to systems-level understanding and translational impact.
UCI supports the needs of dual career couples and promotes a work-life balance through an array of family-friendly policies. We are also a Minority Serving Institution (MSI), a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) and an Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution (AANAPISI). These federal designations align with UCI’s aspiration to be a global leader and model of inclusive excellence.
