Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of government and the international community for action.
UNEP’s Ecosystem Division drives conservation, restoration and sustainable use of ecosystems to achieve benefits for nature and people: today and future generations. The division works with Member States and partners to strengthen resilience by providing policy and technical support to catalyze sustainable social and economic transformation for biodiversity, people and peace.
The consultant will work at the Source to Sea Pollution Unit within the Ecosystems Division to support the implementation and scale-up of youth engagement initiatives, with a particular focus on the phase 6 of the Tide Turners Pollution Challenge (TTPC). TTPC is UNEP’s flagship global youth programme, which started addressing plastic pollution and recently expanded to nutrients and wastewater, advancing sustainable consumption and production through behavior change, leadership development, and community action.
The consultant will support the execution of programme work packages under TTPC, including delivery of AGFUND-supported activities, strengthening youth-led environmental stewardship, supporting resource mobilization efforts and advancing inclusive and scalable models for pollution reduction. This will involve supporting programme implementation across awareness, leadership, advocacy, and emerging youth environment interests, while contributing to donor mapping/engagement, monitoring, evaluation and learning, knowledge generation, and partnerships. The work will contribute to strengthening the role of youth as key agents of change in addressing the triple planetary crisis, and to advancing the environmental dimension of sustainable development within national and global frameworks.
