Position Announcement
Utah Valley University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Finance in the Woodbury School of Business. We are seeking a colleague whose first commitment is to teaching and who will help keep the finance curriculum current as the discipline changes.
Financial practice is changing quickly. Artificial intelligence, machine learning, alternative data, digital assets, and modern analytics tools are altering what graduates need to know when they enter the profession. We want a faculty member who will revise existing courses and develop new ones in response. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate finance courses, maintain an active research agenda sufficient to sustain Scholarly Academic (SA) status under AACSB standards, and contribute to curriculum development and departmental service.
The Department and the School
The Woodbury School of Business is accredited by AACSB International and is housed in the Keller Building. The Department of Finance and Economics offers bachelor’s degrees in Finance and in Financial Planning & Wealth Management, and teaches graduate finance coursework in the MBA and MSF programs.
Departmental and school resources available to faculty and students include the following:
- A Bloomberg Lab, with terminals used in coursework that includes graduate investment analysis and portfolio management.
- A FinTech Center, supporting applied student work in financial technology and data.
- The Wolverine Fund, a student-run venture capital fund whose members conduct investment research, risk assessment, and portfolio management, and work directly with venture investors and startup founders.
- The SMARTLab and the Money Success Center, which support analytics instruction and student financial literacy programming.
- The Baugh Entrepreneurship Institute, which administers student seed funding and pitch competitions.
- Utah Valley University is the largest public university in Utah and serves a broad student population that includes a substantial number of first-generation students. Faculty have considerable latitude in course design and in developing new experiential offerings.
Living in Utah Valley
Orem is located in Utah Valley at the base of the Wasatch Mountains, roughly 45 minutes south of Salt Lake City and Salt Lake City International Airport. The area forms part of the Silicon Slopes technology and financial services corridor, which gives faculty ready access to industry contacts for guest lectures, internships, and applied student projects.
Provo Canyon, Sundance, and Utah Lake are within a half-hour drive, and several major ski resorts lie about an hour to the north. The five national parks in southern Utah are within weekend driving distance. Housing and general living costs are lower than in most coastal metropolitan areas, and commutes are short.
