The University of Washington’s Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Division of Pediatric Rehabilitation, is offering an outstanding opportunity for two pediatric physiatrists to join our faculty at Seattle Children’s Hospital. These will be a full-time academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor -- without tenure due to source of funding, which is typical of ranked faculty appointments within the department.

Assistant Professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

Anticipated start date is Summer 2027, but other dates may be considered.

We offer a collaborative and multidisciplinary academic environment.

As members of the Division of Pediatric Rehabilitation, the successful candidates will participate in clinical, teaching, and research/scholarship activities and will be expected to fulfill requirements for advancement along the Clinician-Educator pathway of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, University of Washington School of Medicine.

Responsibilities will include seeing patients with a range of general rehabilitation needs in ambulatory clinics at the main Seattle Children's Hospital campus and regional sites of care. Among the priorities of the department are growth of early diagnosis of cerebral palsy, transition services, and expansion of cancer care services. Participation in some of these initiatives will be expected. There may also be opportunities to expand outreach services in Alaska. Supervision of trainees, primarily in the clinical setting and in didactic presentations, will be expected. The successful candidates will be expected to take call and round on the inpatient unit on call weekends and assigned holidays. Depending on the clinical need and desire of the physician, there also is opportunity to attend on the inpatient rehabilitation unit and provide acute care consults.

All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.

COMPENSATION

The base salary range for these positions will be $15,000 - $20,598 per month ($180,000 - $247,176 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the Children’s University Medical Group (CUMG) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Other compensation associated with this position may include incentive through Children’s University Medical Group practice plan or a moving allowance, if applicable.

Compensation provided by Children’s University Medical Group (CUMG) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization. ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Washington is a leading academic department that includes faculty at Seattle Children’s, Harborview Medical Center, the University of Washington Medical Center, and the VA Puget Sound Healthcare System. With more than 140 total salaried faculty, of which 70 are physician faculty, UW Rehabilitation Medicine operates the largest Rehabilitation Medicine program in the Northwest region of the United States. We offer nationally recognized training in rehabilitation therapies and rehabilitation research through numerous clinical residencies and fellowships, as well as four graduate degree programs: PhD in Rehabilitation Science, Master in Occupational Therapy, Master in Prosthetics and Orthotics, and Doctor of Physical Therapy.

The Division of Pediatric Rehabilitation at Seattle Children’s includes eight physicians, two advanced practice providers, two psychologists, 62 physical therapists, 39 occupational therapists and 32 speech and language pathologists; all are integral members of the department. The majority of Division faculty work takes place at Seattle Children’s Hospital and the hospital’s regional sites of care.

Seattle Children’s is a 407-bed hospital committed to family centered care, patient safety, teaching and research. It serves as the primary pediatric hospital for the Seattle metropolitan and Puget Sound areas as well as the tertiary referral center for the Pacific Northwest states including Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. The Rehabilitation Medicine program at Seattle Children’s operates a 12-bed inpatient unit, a robust consult service, as well as general and specialized outpatient rehabilitation clinics.

The Seattle-Tacoma/South Puget Sound region is a family-oriented community in the heart of the Pacific Northwest. It is widely recognized as one of the most desirable locations in the United States to live and work, with a wide spectrum of outdoor, cultural, educational, and sporting events, and with year-round recreational opportunities.

For many, living in the Seattle area has as much to do with what is outside the city proper as what is inside. Less than an hour from downtown, residents escape for the day or weekend to wineries, ski resorts, hiking trails, islands, and sprawling parks and beaches. Seattleites bring that love of nature into the city proper as much as possible, enjoying Seattle's parks and tree-lined streets while staying cozy in fleece jackets.
