Job Description

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

The Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach will assist in the development, implementation and management of sport-specific strength and conditioning programs for all student athletes and with the operation of the Landry Fitness Center.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Design effective year-round athletic strength training and conditioning programs for 5-6 intercollegiate teams based on testing and in collaboration with coaches.
2. Implement appropriate strength and conditioning programs, teaching proper techniques and providing supervision and motivation as needed.
3. Conduct testing to assess performance and improvement on a regular basis. Document and evaluate results and progress of student athletes. Review results with student athletes and coaches.
4. Enter and maintain computerized data and tracking of individual and team workouts.
5. Collaborate and communicate with the head strength coach, head sport coaches and athletic trainers.
6. Develop plans for the policies and organization of the new fitness facility.
7. Maintain equipment and make recommendations for repairs and/or replacements as needed.
8. Develop programming related to student athlete health and wellness topics.
9. Must be committed to the academic goals of the university and follow the rules, regulations and guidelines set forth by Fitchburg State University, the NCAA, and all member athletic conferences.
10. Assist head of performance and sport science with data collection, testing protocols, and management of student interns.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Bachelor's Degree required.
2. Must have obtained at least one certification from from a nationally recognized strength and conditioning organization (NSCA - CSCS, CSCCa - SCCC)
3. Current CPR/AED certification.
4. Experience with and an excellent working knowledge of exercise techniques appropriate for a variety of intercollegiate student athletes.
5. Proficiency in teaching lifting techniques.
6. Ability to supervise and motivate student athletes.
7. Excellent interpersonal skills with a diverse population.
8. Effective organizational skills.
9. Ability to perform above duties with or without reasonable accommodations.

Additional Information

This is a full-time, 10 month, exempt, benefits-eligible position in the Association of Professional Administrators (APA) bargaining unit with a union title of Staff Assistant. The starting salary range is $49,000 to $54,000 commensurate with education and experience.
