Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The department provides undergraduate students with a strong foundational knowledge of normal and disordered human communication, focusing on the biological, physical, linguistic, and cultural bases of speech, language, hearing, and cognitive communication processes. Designed to prepare graduates for competitive admission into Master’s degree programs in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology—or for immediate entry into allied health and human service careers—the department fosters an inclusive, student-centered learning environment committed to academic excellence, faculty scholarship, and service to culturally and linguistically diverse populations.
