University College Birmingham is seeking an Apprenticeship Quality Manager to lead apprenticeship-specific quality assurance and improvement across our provision. Joining our developing Centre for Apprenticeships, you will have the opportunity to shape practice, support colleagues and strengthen the experience of apprentices and employers.
Your remit will focus on the features that make an apprenticeship a coherent and individualised learning journey: effective initial assessment, training planning informed by starting points, meaningful employer involvement, purposeful progress reviews, coordinated support and preparation for successful completion.
The role focuses on the quality of the apprentice journey and experience, complementing the established academic quality assurance responsibilities of Schools and the University’s quality teams.
Through observation, sampling, case review and feedback, you will evaluate how effectively these activities support learning and progress. You will work with colleagues to turn findings into practical improvements and evaluate the difference they make.
Alongside assurance activity, you will develop quality frameworks, guidance and resources, coordinate staff development and standardisation, and strengthen how apprentice and employer feedback informs our work. You will also contribute to self-assessment, improvement planning and inspection readiness.
Working closely with Schools, progress coaches, Operations and institutional quality colleagues, you will bring specialist apprenticeship expertise and support shared ownership of quality across the University.
We are looking for someone who combines sound quality judgement with the ability to build relationships and improve practice. You will bring experience of evaluating and strengthening apprenticeship-specific practice, with a clear understanding of how its different elements work together to support apprentice success.
You will be confident developing quality frameworks, drawing balanced conclusions from evidence and evaluating impact. You will also be able to challenge constructively, coach colleagues and translate requirements into approaches that work in practice.
This is an opportunity to shape an important function within an evolving service, with a clear focus on the quality of apprentices’ learning, support and outcomes.
For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Liz Myatt, Head of Apprenticeships, at emyatt@ucb.ac.uk.
Interviews will take place on Tuesday 8th December 2026.
