Job Description
The Psychology Department at Arcadia University is inviting applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor to begin in Fall 2027. The candidate's area of specialization within Psychology is open. Competitive candidates will be able to teach courses in our research sequence: Research Methods and Experimental Psychology I and II (critical thinking, reading, and writing), as well as elective courses in their area of expertise. The ability to teach Learning and Cognition is also preferred. Competitive candidates will also demonstrate a record of engaging undergraduate students through teaching practices that support student success and skill development. Our department emphasizes critical thinking, the importance of evidence-based conclusions, and effective oral and written communication.
Location: Glenside
Responsibilities: Tenure-track full-time faculty members at Arcadia typically teach a 3-3 load, often with fewer than three course preparations per semester; collaborate with undergraduates in conducting scholarship; participate in university and department service; advise Psychology majors; and contribute to campus-wide efforts that promote student engagement, belonging, and retention.
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in a relevant field (or expected by August 2027)
- Ability to teach Research Methods or other courses in our research track (e.g., Experimental Psychology I and II), and courses in one's area of expertise.
- Commitment to inclusive excellence in undergraduate teaching.
- Evidence of scholarship that is collaborative with undergraduates and feasible at a small liberal arts institution.
Notes: Candidates must have permanent work authorization without the need for current or future employer sponsorship. Interested candidates should apply online and submit:
- Cover letter, which should describe how your teaching, scholarship, and service align with Arcadia's student-focused mission and values.
- A detailed CV listing relevant qualifications and experiences, including advising and mentoring of students, where applicable
- Statement of teaching philosophy and teaching interests. Please also describe your approach for student engagement and success, including how you would promote an inclusive learning environment that supports students with a range of backgrounds, experiences, and learning needs.
- Evidence of teaching effectiveness (e.g., recent quantitative and qualitative course evaluation data, accompanied by a brief summary explaining the data)
- Description of research interests, which should describe how you would involve students in your research, and how your research can be feasibly conducted at a small, liberal arts institution.
- Contact information for three references. Letters of recommendation will be requested from finalists.
Application Instructions:
- Applications must be submitted online through Arcadia's Human Resources portal to receive full consideration. Please do not email application materials to the hiring manager. Due to the volume of applications received, communication will generally be limited to candidates selected for additional consideration.
