Description
We are seeking researchers who are passionate about Data Science, with an emphasis in Computational Social Science. Some of the possible research topics include the analysis of data gleaned from social media analysis, with a substantive focus on collective action or inequality. Interested candidates could also be invited to participate in mixed-methods work that include primary data collection using survey or field experiments, or more qualitative approaches, such as interviews.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate is self-motivated and hard-working with a PhD degree in Data Science, Computational Social Science, Computer Science, or Information Science. The candidate must have received the doctoral degree within the past 5 years. The position requires experience with at least one of the following: Data Science, Machine Learning, Computational Social Science. Relevant skills could include statistical analysis, data management and collection, big data, causal inference, network analysis, sophisticated visualization, and online tool development. Experience in conducting online controlled experiments or participation in mixed-methods work is desired, but not required. Excellent communication skills in English, ability to work in multidisciplinary teams, and scientific creativity are essential. The selected candidate will spend half their time on independent research, and half their time on collaborative research working closely with Bedoor AlShebli, an Assistant Professor in Computational Social Science in the Social Science Division at NYUAD, and Kinga Makovi, an Associate Professor at the Social Science Division at NYUAD. The position provides salary higher than internationally competitive rates for Post-Doctoral / Research Engineering / Research Assistant positions, in addition to substantial benefits (generous housing, transportation and travel allowances, educational subsidies for children), together with comprehensive health insurance and retirement contributions. The UAE does not levy income tax. The position does not require teaching, but it may be possible to get teaching experience for compensation. You would join a group of over 20 post-doctoral fellows and 70 faculty in the Division of Social Science.
