The Medical Faculty of the University of Münster is looking to fill a
University Professorship (W3) in General Radiology.
The professorship carries a leadership function for the Department of Radiology within the interdisciplinary
Center for Imaging Sciences. The incumbent will represent the field of General Radiology
in research, teaching, and patient care in its entirety. The independently managed neuroradiology
is not part of this appointment. Within the Department of Radiology there is a section for Interventional
Neuroradiology with medical overall responsibility; this section is also not covered by the call.
We are seeking an internationally recognized scientific personality who will comprehensively represent
the discipline of Radiology – excluding neuroradiology – in research, teaching, and patient
care, and who will further develop the department strategically, organizationally, and economically.
Desired are, in particular, proven competencies in oncologic imaging, organ imaging, and/or interventional
radiology. In addition, experience in quantitative MRI, data science, and the application of
artificial intelligence in radiology (and beyond) is highly welcomed.
We are looking for a cooperative, interdisciplinary thinking and acting individual with demonstrated
competence in successfully leading a department. Strong communication skills both internally and
externally, as well as pronounced organizational talent, are required.
The applicant should present documented, preferably international, research experience and a successful
record of acquiring competitive third party funding. Furthermore, significant experience and
a visible commitment to university teaching are expected.
The application must include a written, innovative, and detailed concept for the further development
of the Department of Radiology in research, teaching, and patient care, including physician
training. In this concept, the integration and strengthening of the Medical Faculty’s research focus
areas – cell differentiation, regeneration and neoplasia; vascular system; neural systems; inflammation
and infection – as well as the university’s profile areas, especially cell dynamics, inflammation,
and imaging, should be outlined.
In addition, the concept should identify collaboration possibilities with existing and future research
consortia, the West German Tumor Center (WTZ), the University Research and Treatment Centers
(UFBZ), and with related departments and research infrastructures. This includes, in particular, the
Multiscale Imaging Centre (MIC) and the Body & Brain Institute Münster (BBIM).
Prerequisites for application are scientific achievements attained as part of a junior Professorship,
habilitation or occupation as a research associate at a university or non-university facility. Reference
is made to the further requirements listed in § 36 of the Higher Education Act.
Professors with clinical duties are generally employed under a private law service contract (exceptions
are possible if the applicant already holds a tenured professorship in salary group C4/C3/W3/
W2). The clinical responsibilities associated with the professorship are governed by a separate
contract with the University Hospital Münster.
The University of Münster strongly supports equal opportunity and diversity. We welcome all applicants
regardless of sex, nationality, ethnic or social background, religion or worldview, disability,
age, sexual orientation or gender identity. We are committed to creating family-friendly working
conditions.
We actively encourage applications by women. Women with equivalent qualifications and academic
achievements will be preferentially considered unless these are outweighed by reasons which
necessitate the selection of another candidate.
Applications must be submitted by 03.12.2026 exclusively via the Medical Faculty’s online portal:
https://berufungsportal.uni-muenster.de. There you can upload the usual documents (curriculum
vitae, scientific career summary, structured publication list,
acquired third party funding, compilation of teaching activities),
a detailed, future-oriented teaching concept
compatible with the faculty’s teaching strategy, as well as
the research concepts.
