Description

SAIS invites applications for a term faculty appointment at the senior lecturer or professor of practice level, specializing in technology and international affairs. Candidates are expected to have 7 or more years of experience working in the technology policy space, either in government, the private sector, or academia. Rank will be determined based on the candidate's experience and qualifications. The successful candidate will partner with the Director of the Master of Arts in Technology and Policy program to lead an interdisciplinary degree program that integrates technology, policy, data science concepts, and the social sciences to prepare students to navigate the dynamic intersection of innovation and international affairs. The curriculum spans key domains such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, space policy, biotechnology, sustainable development, and the digital economy, inequality and the impacts of differential access to technology, and core themes include data governance, digital surveillance, disinformation, infrastructure resilience, and the shifting geopolitics of technological advancement. The primary responsibility will involve teaching both core and elective courses, partnering with the Director to administer the degree program, and supporting co-curricular activities within the Technology and Innovation Focus Area in Washington, D.C. This appointment is a full-time, non-tenure track, renewable 3 year term position, scheduled to commence in the fall semester of 2027.

Founded in 1943 and a Johns Hopkins division since 1950, The Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies of the Johns Hopkins University (SAIS) has been educating global leaders for more than 80 years. As a highly selective graduate institution with a distinguished faculty, SAIS consistently ranks as one of the top schools of international relations in the world. SAIS was founded to provide a practical approach to training students in international leadership and foreign relations, and to provide mid-career educational opportunities for those already working in related fields. Today, SAIS offers the MAIR, MAGR, MASCI, MAGP, MAIS, MASE, MIEF, MIPP, DIA and Ph.D. degrees and enrolls approximately 600 full-time students in Washington, D.C., primarily in the school's two-year Master of Arts program. Nearly 36 percent of the students are non-citizens coming from more than 40 countries. About 200 students attend SAIS Europe in Bologna, Italy, while about 180 students attend the Hopkins-Nanjing Center in Nanjing, China. To learn more about SAIS, visit www.sais-jhu.edu.
