Position Profile
Ivey Business School invites applications for a faculty position in sustainability at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor on a probationary tenure track appointment, or at the rank of Associate Professor with tenure.
The successful applicant will be expected to establish and maintain a strong, independent, impactful research program and to engage and collaborate with other Sustainability Group members. The successful applicant will join a highly innovative group among the most research-active in the world (https://www.ivey.uwo.ca/faculty_research/faculty/area-groups/sustainability/). The sustainability group is multidisciplinary. We welcome applications from scholars in any business discipline, working at any level of analysis, from individuals to organizations, supply chains, and markets, and using any method suited to the question being addressed. The limiting factor is that the context must involve macro-level issues that are not exclusively financial or economic in nature.
Academic Expectations
The successful applicant will conduct world-class research in sustainability and publish that research in top outlets, specifically FT50 and ABS 4(+) journals. We are open to a wide range of research interests, paradigms and methods, but scholars with interests that overlap or offer collaboration potential with existing Ivey sustainability faculty will be preferred.
The applicant will be expected to teach sustainability courses using the Ivey case method and other experiential learning approaches, such as simulations, field projects, and live challenges. In addition to research and teaching, core functions include supervising student research (undergraduate, graduate, and Ph.D.), obtaining external funding, writing cases, and contributing to the sustainability group (e.g., organizing seminars).
Qualifications or Experience Required
Research
Applicants must possess a Ph.D. in any field typically taught in a business school, with a focus on sustainability-related issues. The successful applicant will have a strong research record, including publications in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals, conferences, awards, invited talks, and other scholarly achievements, as appropriate for their career path and stage. The candidate shall demonstrate promise of research impact and a reputation as an emerging or seasoned international researcher, depending on rank. We will also consider the ability to attract external research funding. As we are concurrently recruiting for a Chair in regenerative agriculture, this search is focused on candidates outside this area.
Teaching
Ivey Business School is a demanding teaching environment. The successful applicant will demonstrate experience or aptitude to lead a case-driven curriculum in sustainability and related areas at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. They must also have pedagogical interest or experience in creating new teaching materials, primarily case development and writing.
Service
Service expectations will be commensurate with rank, but will include service to the research field, the sustainability area group, Ivey Business School, and Western University. We will consider service experience in both internal and external capacities.
Interpersonal/Communication
Applicants must demonstrate the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, students, and administrative staff within the Ivey Business School and the broader university community. Consideration of applicants will focus on qualifications, professional experience, interpersonal skills, and the ability to contribute to teaching and leadership. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong communication skills, cultural competence, and the ability to foster positive relationships across diverse groups.
