The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in the Maroun Semaan Faculty of Engineering and Architecture at the American University of Beirut invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Artificial Intelligence (AI). Exceptional candidates at higher ranks might be considered.
The Department seeks outstanding candidates with a strong research record and demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and research in artificial intelligence and machine learning. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Machine learning and deep learning
- Generative AI and large language models
- Agentic AI and multi-agent systems
- Natural language processing
- Computer vision and multimodal AI
- Reinforcement learning
- Trustworthy, responsible, and explainable AI
- AI systems and efficient AI
- Edge AI and embedded intelligence
- AI for engineering, healthcare, and other interdisciplinary applications
The successful candidate is expected to establish an internationally recognized and externally funded research program, contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching in AI and related areas, supervise graduate students and final-year projects, and participate actively in the academic and professional activities of the Department and Faculty. The candidate will also be encouraged to develop interdisciplinary collaborations across AUB and with external academic and industrial partners.

Consideration of the received applications will begin as of December 30, 2026. The ideal starting date for the position is September 2027, but willing to consider a later date for the right candidate. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
