Hiring Department

Clinical Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Department of Health Psychology
Thompson Center for Autism and Neurodevelopment
College of Health Sciences
University of Missouri – Columbia

Job Description

Position: The Department of Health Psychology in the College of Health Sciences and the Thompson Center for Autism and Neurodevelopment at the University of Missouri-Columbia are seeking candidates for a clinical Postdoctoral Fellowship position.

The Postdoctoral Fellowship is either a one-year Autism focused position, or a 2-year combined neuropsychology and autism focused position, with a start date on or around July 1, 2027.

This position emphasizes diagnostic evaluations of children and adolescents for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) but includes experience with other neurodevelopmental disorders. Additionally, for neuropsychology applicants, the position will also involve substantial neuropsychological evaluation and consultation services consistent with Houston Conference guidelines. Opportunities for delivery of intervention services are also available.

The postdoctoral fellow will participate in interdisciplinary health care diagnostic teams, supervision within a tiered model, and a wide variety of clinical and didactic opportunities to develop advanced competencies in the specialty area of ASD and/or neuropsychology. This position is funded through the Thompson Center.

Setting: Clinical training, research, and education activities will occur primarily at the Thompson Center for Autism and Neurodevelopment at the University of Missouri. In March 2026, The Thompson Center opened a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to research, training, and service innovations to improve the lives of individuals with ASD and other neurodevelopmental disorders.

The Thompson Center is a unique collaboration of colleges and schools that brings together experts from numerous departments across the University of Missouri campus to expand research and services for children affected by neurodevelopmental disorders. The Thompson Center integrates research, teaching, and service in one central location.

Clinical services provided at the Thompson Center currently include medicine, neuropsychology, pediatric psychology, occupational therapy, speech/language therapy, physical therapy, social work, applied behavioral analysis, psychiatry, nursing, neurology, genetics, PM&R, and education.

The University of Missouri (http://www.missouri.edu/) is the first public university west of the Mississippi River, is a major land-grant institution, and is Missouri's largest public research university.

The University of Missouri is located in Columbia, a progressive community with a population of 130,000+ residents consistently rated as one of the most desirable places to live in the United States. Located halfway between St. Louis and Kansas City and 30 miles from the state capital in Jefferson City, the city boasts a range of cultural and recreational opportunities, affordable housing, a moderate cost of living, and excellent schools. For more information about Columbia, see http://www.visitcolumbiamo.com/.

Position Overview & Primary Activities: This fellowship includes primarily clinical activities for children/adolescents with a range of neurodevelopmental and neurological disorders. Clinical activities will include participation in psychological and interdisciplinary evaluations with youth who present with a wide array of concerns. The majority of clinical work focuses on autism spectrum disorders and/or conditions that impact neuropsychological functioning. Opportunities to provide empirically supported intervention services are also available, including individual or group services for youth and caregivers.

The fellow may also have opportunities for leading multi-disciplinary evaluations and supervision of less experienced clinicians (e.g., practicum students). The fellow will also have the opportunity to obtain research reliability on the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule-Second Edition (ADOS-2).
