The Department of Engineering Science in the Gupta College of Science and Engineering at Coastal Carolina University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level beginning Fall 2027 in support of its Engineering Science program.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Materials Science or a closely related field by the time of appointment. Proven expertise and research interests in the field of Biomedical instrumentations and/or Materials Science are required. Special preference will be given to applicants with interdisciplinary qualifications or experience. Applicants must be teacher-scholars who will establish research agendas that involve undergraduate students and teach introductory engineering courses, as well as upper-level courses in their area of expertise. The position also requires engaging engineering students through active advising and mentoring of extracurricular groups. Start-up funds will be available to establish a research agenda that incorporates undergraduate students.

Preferred Qualifications

Post-doctoral experience is preferred.

Job Duties

• Teaches students in the classroom and/or laboratory.
• Prepares content, syllabi, and University Moodle/curricular site for each course and/or lab assigned each semester. Communicates to students after reviewing assignments. Calculates and assigns grades (e.g., mid-term and final) through established procedures listed in the Faculty Manual and University catalog. Tracks and reports absences as directed by the Office of the Registrar.
• Posts and holds regular office hours each week per College and University guidelines. Engages in University-related activities including committee assignments, meetings, ceremonies, events and scholarly pursuits as prescribed in the Faculty Manual.
• Conducts research to create and add knowledge in a field, including the advancement of new theories and principles to improve educational effectiveness. Trains students in related research techniques.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
