How can you make a difference?

Child wasting remains a major cause of preventable illness and death, requiring effective prevention, early identification, treatment, follow-up and relapse prevention across routine, fragile and humanitarian health systems. However, conflict, displacement, climate shocks, food insecurity and financing constraints often weaken service access, quality and continuity. Existing monitoring systems provide limited insight into service readiness, quality of care, referral completion, equity, supply continuity and populations missed by services, while data sources are often fragmented and poorly linked to decision-making. This initiative will strengthen the quality and performance of child wasting services by addressing system-level constraints and integrating quality improvement approaches into national health systems. Led by UNICEF’s Child Nutrition and Development Global Practice, the multi-country programme will support countries across Asia-Pacific and fragile and humanitarian settings through a common technical framework adapted to local contexts, in partnership with ministries of health, regional and country offices, and implementing partners.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have...

Demonstrated experience in low- and middle-income countries in routine, fragile or humanitarian settings. Across the two selected consultants, UNICEF will seek complementary experience spanning Asia and Africa, health systems and humanitarian nutrition, and community, outpatient and inpatient services.

  • Skills: Demonstrated expertise in programme performance analysis, quality improvement, and use ofroutine and survey data.
