The application of nanotechnology to medicine has shown great promise in diagnostics, imaging, therapy among others. This calls for cross-disciplinary research exploiting experiences of well-established research groups at NTNU who are currently contributing to the corona virus pandemic with their novel diagnostic method (https://www.ntnu.edu/ntnu-covid-19-test).
\n\n\n
The current project aims to facilitate such cross-disciplinary activities between two research groups, located in two different faculties Prof Magnar Bjørås at the Department of Clinical and Molecular Medicine (IKOM), Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and Dr. Sulalit Bandyopadhyay at the Department of Chemical Engineering (IKP), Faculty of Natural Sciences.
\n\n\n
Project Description
\n\n\n
The cross-disciplinary project Nano-Medicine Initiative: Functional Nanoparticles in Medicine, funded by NTNU Health, NTNU Rectorate, Faculty of Natural Sciences (NV) and Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (MH) aims to synthesize and tailor-make nanoparticles for a wide range of biomedical applications including diagnostic testing of various diseases such as microbial infections, cardiovascular diseases and cancer by detection of antibodies, proteins, nucleic acids and metabolites. The focus is to develop real-time high throughput strategies for diagnosis. The technology developed in these projects can also be applied in other sectors such as agriculture, aqua culture and food industry. The project further aims to develop understanding of the growth mechanisms of nanoparticles in batch and continuous processes to obtain a better control of particle size and size distribution.
\n\n\n
We are seeking 3 PhD candidates and 1 Post Doctoral Researcher within various thematic areas in nanomedicine. Two of the PhDs will be affiliated primarily with Department of Chemical Engineering, NTNU while one PhD and the Post Doc will be affiliated primarily with Department of Clinical and Molecular Medicine, NTNU.
\n\n\n
However, the supervision team for all the four recruitment positions will consist of academic and research staff from both the departments.
\n\n\n
Department of Clinical and Molecular Medicine
\n\n\n
\n
Postdoctoral Fellow within Nanomedicine – Functionalization of Nanoparticles for Diagnostic Applications
\n
PhD Position within Nanomedicine – Nanoparticles for High Throughput Diagnostics
\n
\n\n\n
Department of Chemical Engineering
\n\n\n
\n
PhD Position within Nanomedicine – Continuous Methods for Production of Nanoparticles
\n
PhD Position within Nanomedicine – Controlling Growth of Nanoparticles
\n
\n\n\n
General information
\n\n\n
Working at NTNU
\n\n\n
The city of Trondheim is a modern European city with a rich cultural scene.
