{"job":{"jobId":1210403,"fk_accountId":null,"fk_organizationId":507,"fk_adminAccountId":null,"title":"Associate Professor (Disaster and Remote Sensing)","description":"\n\n<p><strong>Associate Professor (Disaster and Remote Sensing)</strong></p>\n\n\n<p>The Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS), Asian School of the Environment (ASE) and School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) is seeking to fill a dual-role position comprising (1) director of a new laboratory at EOS focused on natural hazards monitoring and disaster response using remote sensing and (2) a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Associate Professor (without tenure) in the area of radar/optical remote sensing and geophysics.</p>\n\n\n<p>Responsibilities as a director will include (1) formulating and leading a lab for developing innovative new algorithms and systems for disaster response and hazard monitoring, using Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and optical imagery, (2) producing and delivering disaster response and hazard monitoring products in support of responding agencies and scientific communities, and (3) building trusted relationships with responding agencies to create societal impact in and around Southeast Asia. The director will work closely with offices at EOS focused on public engagement and philanthropy, and with faculty research groups at EOS, EEE and ASE. </p>\n\n\n<p>Responsibilities as a faculty member will include (1) teaching undergraduate and graduate level classes in radar and optical remote sensing at EEE and ASE, (2) supervising PhD students and postdocs, (3) conducting research in remote sensing and geophysics in collaboration with the research groups at EOS, EEE and ASE, and (4) publishing research and application results and sharing lessons learned from response, monitoring, and development.</p>\n\n\n<p><strong>Details of requirements</strong></p>\n\n\n<p><strong>As a director at The Earth Observatory of Singapore</strong>:</p>\n\n\n<p>The successful applicant is expected to have an outstanding track record of rapid disaster-response activities following natural disasters -- such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, landslides, wildfires, and floods -- using SAR and InSAR observations from spaceborne and airborne platforms. They should have extensive experience supporting international responding agencies in disaster response and monitoring. Evidence of at least ten years of semi-operational application-oriented professional experiences is required.</p>\n\n\n<p>EOS conducts research on earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions and climate change in Southeast Asia and elsewhere. Aside from its scientific value, our work gives Singapore and other countries in the region the knowledge they need to build societies that are more resilient to these natural hazards.</p>\n\n\n<p><strong>As a faculty member of</strong> <strong>Nanyang Technological University:</strong></p>\n\n\n<p>The successful applicant will have a PhD in geophysics, remote sensing, Earth science, or a related discipline, with a high level of education and experience in InSAR and its applications in geophysics. Also required is a track record of supervising other researchers, postdocs, students, and interns in relevant fields, and demonstrated ability in attracting research funding. The successful applicant needs to demonstrate outstanding teaching abilities in the field of radar and optical remote sensing.
