Since February 2020, our DEI office has relaunched with expanded scope by embedding DEI initiatives throughout the entire fabric of our School, from mentoring and teaching to planning fieldwork and making curriculum choices, to working with students, staff, and faculty.\n\n\nWe are looking for an enthusiastic Assistant Director who has experience working closely with students, supporting and managing programs and events, evaluating and reporting on program impact, writing and updating content for websites and other communication channels, and facilitating conversations about best practices related to equity and inclusion in higher education and/or STEM. The Assistant Director will take the lead in overseeing and managing the SURGE Scholars program, while also helping to implement and facilitate our recruitment and retention community activities. Reporting to the Stanford Earth DEI Director, the Assistant Director will provide support and assist in developing, implementing, and administrating School’s DEI vision and goals to make Earth, Energy &amp; Environmental Sciences at Stanford a more diverse and inclusive community for students, staff and faculty.\n\n\nYour Responsibilities will Include*:\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Oversee and implement SURGE Scholars program and manage day-to-day activities of program, including budget, publicity, recruitment, applications, faculty match, alumni network, and program evaluation and reporting.</li>\n<li>Collaborate and act as liaison with DEI partners in Stanford Earth departments/programs to implement graduate student and postdoctoral initiatives related to recruitment and inclusion efforts (e.g., Grad Day, PRISM, university recruitment visits, and Stanford Earth Celebrates community events) and report on program impact.</li>\n<li>In partnership with Director and Associate Deans, grow and manage day-to-day activities of the Respectful Community program and other Stanford Earth Values series community events including curriculum/workshop development, event and participant management, budget, and program evaluation.</li>\n<li>Support and facilitate critical dialogues about DEI praxis, understanding the intersectionality of identities and social experience, anti-bias training, and other best practices with School community members.</li>\n<li>Provide DEI support to other Educational Affairs programs as appropriate (such as field and outreach programs, faculty mentoring programs, graduate and postdoctoral professional development, etc.)</li>\n<li>Update and create DEI content for website, brochures, recruitment and retention materials to distribute through various Stanford Earth DEI communications channels, including email list and social media.</li>\n<li>Assist Director in the training of graduate students, postdocs, and staff as recruiters at key national conferences, target campuses, etc.</li>\n<li>Assist Director to devise strategies for recruitment in partnership with the Assistant Dean for Student Services and student services partners in departments and programs.</li>\n<li>Assist the Director, Associate Dean for Educational Affairs, and Sr. Associate Deans in long-range planning with program insights, literature reviews, data analysis, reporting, etc. Contribute to and inform program planning and ongoing development.</li>\n<li>Assist Director with grant management administration and with monitoring DEI office budget and expense accounting.</li>\n</ul>\n\n\nTo be successful in this position, you will bring:\n\n\nEducation &amp; Experience:\n\n\nBachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience or combination of education, training, and relevant experience. Advanced degree may be required for some programs.
