{"job":{"jobId":1212264,"fk_accountId":null,"fk_organizationId":466,"fk_adminAccountId":null,"title":"Assistant Paintings Conservator","description":"\n\n<p><strong>Position Focus:</strong></p>\n\n\n<p>Perform a variety of project-related conservation treatments in anticipation of a major exhibition of American Renaissance art with a team of conservators. Maintain written and photographic records of the work.\n \n<strong>Essential Duties:</strong></p>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Perform conservation treatments of the highest order on paintings by the American Gilded Age artist Edwin Austin Abbey, and others as applicable.</li>\n<li>Assist the conservation department with other treatments and projects as needed. This may include conservation checks, environmental handling, and other short-term treatment projects as needs arise.</li>\n<li>Work with staff conservators to develop treatment strategies, supervise staff technicians, conservation student interns, and installations staff.</li>\n<li>Perform independent research on the projects to include consultation with colleagues in conservation, conservation science, and art history, both at Yale and externally.</li>\n<li>Travel on occasion to research projects, attend conferences, courier artworks, and other professional development activities.</li>\n<li>Assist with ordering supplies and equipment necessary to perform conservation tasks. Help maintain conservation work space and its equipment; assessing needs, researching and testing new materials.</li>\n<li>Conduct tours of the conservation department and discuss current projects to appropriate groups, including Yale college students, faculty and Art Gallery patrons and Governing Board, and visitors to the conservation work spaces for development purposes.</li>\n<li>Work with and advise curators, exhibitions staff, registrars, visiting scholars and museum technicians regarding the care of artworks the Art Gallery Collection. </li>\n<li>Advise on the proper care, handling, and storage of fragile works of art during transit and storage.</li>\n</ul>\n\n\n<p><strong>Essential Duties</strong></p>\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Supports and coordinates a range of academic programs.</li>\n<li>Works on various programs throughout the year; including researching and writing of highly confidential material and working with other departments within the University.</li>\n<li>Interacts with faculty, students and staff within and outside of the University.</li>\n<li>May perform other duties as assigned.</li>\n</ol>\n\n\n<p><strong>Required Education and Experience</strong></p>\n\n\n<p>Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.</p>\n\n\n<p><strong>Required Skill/Ability 1:</strong></p>\n\n\n<p>Knowledge of chemistry; art history/anthropology; conservation principles, techniques, and procedures; and of craftsmen, artists’ and fabricators’ materials and techniques.</p>\n\n\n<p><strong>Required Skill/Ability 2:</strong></p>\n\n\n<p>Ability to consult and collaborate with scientists for technical examination and analysis.</p>\n\n\n<p><strong>Required Skill/Ability 3:</strong></p>\n\n\n<p>Good organizational and interpersonal skills, visual acuity, and artistic skills.</p>\n\n\n<p><strong>Required Skill/Ability 4:</strong></p>\n\n\n<p>Willingness to work on physically demanding projects.</p>\n\n\n<p><strong>Required Skill/Ability 5:</strong></p>\n\n\n<p>Ability to work independently and in collaboration with colleagues.</p>\n\n\n<p><strong>Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:</strong></p>\n\n\n<p>Master’s degree or equivalent in conservation including minimum of one year of conservation experience.</p>\n\n\n<p><strong>Physical Requirements</strong></p>\n\n\n<p>Manual dexterity.</p>\n\n\n<p><strong>Weekend Hours Required? </strong>Occasional</p>\n\n\n<p><strong>Evening Hours Required?</strong> Occasional</p>\n\n\n<p><strong>Drug Screen </strong>No</p>\n\n\n<p><strong>Health Screening</strong> No</p>\n\n\n<p><strong>Background Check Requirements</strong></p>\n\n\n<p>All candidates for employment will be subject to pre-employment background screening for this position, which may include motor vehicle, DOT certification, drug testing and credit checks based on the position description and job requirements.
