Possible topics include electronic and vibrational states in bulk semiconductors (group IV, III-V, II-VI, copper halides), semiconductor heterostructures (2D, 1D and QDs), metallic quantum structures, topological insulators, and magnetic phase transitions in transition metal oxides hosting strongly correlated electrons. The research will be performed at the Department of Condensed Matter Physics, Faculty of Science, Masaryk University, using, in particular, the spectroscopic equipment of CEITEC Nano Infrastructure, e.g., broadband spectroscopic ellipsometry spanning from far-infrared to ultraviolet frequencies. CEITEC Nano Infrastructure is the national, single-sited research infrastructure of the Central European Institute of Technology established jointly by Brno University of Technology and Masaryk University, see http://www.nano.ceitec.cz. The infrastructure also includes nanofabrication laboratory with instrumentation for nanolitography and a wealth of deposition techniques, e.g., PLD, MBE, magnetron sputtering, ALD, CVD etc. Well established collaborations with other laboratories allow us to access also facilities for time resolved measurements of the optical response (at ELI Beamlines in Dolní Břežany), facilities for measurements in high magnetic fields (CNRS Grenoble), specialized techniques for depositions of nanostructures (CNR Bari), nanoimprinting based techniques (JKU Linz) etc.</p>\n<p><strong>Main duties:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n<li>to participate in selecting specific problems (this will be done together with professors of the Department of Condensed Matter Physics)</li>\n<li>to perform spectroscopic measurements on selected advanced materials and to analyze the data using phenomenological models and/or to attempt to design related new experimental setups</li>\n<li>write papers for publication in peer reviewed journals</li>\n<li>to present his/her results at international conferences.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>The successful candidate should:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n<li>be a researcher who has received - within the last 7 years - a PhD or its equivalent in experimental condensed matter physics or in a related field of study from an internationally recognized research university</li>\n<li>be a researcher who has worked at least two whole years in the last three outside the territory of the Czech Republic in the field of research with a working time of at least 0.5 full-time equivalent, or who has been PhD student (or equivalent) abroad</li>\n<li>have a publishing record – in the last three years at least two publication outputs registered in the Thomson Reuters Web of Science, Scopus or ERIH PLUS databases and at the same time publications such as “articles”, “books”, “book chapters”, “letters” and “reviews”</li>\n<li>have a strong background in optics and solid-state physics</li>\n<li>have an experience in optical spectroscopy and evaluation of spectroscopic data </li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>The application should include:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n<li>a CV including a summary of education and research experience, publication activity, involvement in research grants, etc.</li>\n<li>a scanned copy of the PhD diploma or an official letter certifying submission of a doctoral thesis for thesis defense and the planned defense date</li>\n<li>a motivation letter</li>\n<li>at least two reference letters</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>MU offers the opportunity to get:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n<li>an interesting job in a dynamically-expanding university area</li>\n<li>diverse and challenging work in an excellent research environment</li>\n<li>a professional team and pleasant working conditions</li>\n<li>interaction with leading scientists in an inspiring environment</li>\n<li>a welcoming service for the successful candidate and his/her family</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Anticipated start date:</strong> The position is available from June 1st 2020.</p>\n<p>The submission deadline is <strong>29 February 2020</strong>.</p>\n<p>Please submit your application/enquiries by e-mail to prof.
