Clinical research and education are carried out in collaboration with other research groups from Karolinska Institutet and other universities, as well as with Stockholm County Council (the regional municipal body responsible for healthcare). </p>\n\n\n<p>The Division of Eye and Vision located at St. Erik Eye Hospital is heavily involved in teaching related to ophthalmology and optometry. Within the division, the Unit of Optometry is responsible for the BSc program in Optometry and for the one-year Master program in Clinical Optometry. The unit also runs the university’s optometric clinic where students receive their clinical training. The department is now looking to recruit a professor who will be responsible for facilitating the development of activities within the Unit of Optometry.</p>\n\n\n<p><strong>Your mission</strong>\nThe position has focus on education and research. The successful applicant will pursue leading research within the area of clinical optometry, lead and develope the optometric education, supervise doctoral students, and work with development duties at both departmental and central university level. The professor is thus expected to play a pivotal role in the development of both education and research in the Unit of Optometry, thus strengthening the position of optometry within the university and beyond. Both theoretical and clinical teaching at all levels is expected, as is overseeing the development and quality assurance of optometric research in close connection to our clinical optometric practice.</p>\n\n\n<p><strong>Eligibility requirements</strong>\nTo be eligible for employment as Professor the applicant must have demonstrated both research and teaching expertise, as well as management, development, collaborative and clinical skills (See instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet.) The applicant shall also have completed courses of 10 weeks of higher education training in teaching (or have equivalent competence) in accordance with the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions recommendations for qualification as a higher education teacher.</p>\n\n\n<p>The successful candidate will be a trained optometrist with very good knowledge within the field of optometry. Increasing demands for evidence-based practice within the field requires the applicant to be able to demonstrate a strong background in research methods and design and experience of managing the development of research-related education in the field of optometry. The applicant must have solid experience of collaborating with other researchers and clinicians as well as a very good knowledge of English.</p>\n\n\n<p><strong>Basis of assessment</strong>\nThe Professorship has a focus on education and research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: research expertise (2), educational expertise (3) leadership, development and collaboration expertise (2) and clinical skills (2).</p>\n\n\n<p>Since optometry as a research area is relatively recently established in Sweden, a broad optometric research profile is advantageous. A broad research profile is a merit since it is seen as a prerequisite for being able to further develop the field and support colleagues. International knowledge and experience of optometry with regards to education, development and research is also meriting. Speaking and writing in one of the Scandinavian languages is meriting.</p>\n\n\n<p>After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the candidates, KI will judge which of the candidates that have the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.</p>\n\n\n<p><strong>What do we offer?</strong>\nA creative and inspiring environment full of expertise and curiosity.
