These differences support tumors in progressing from local to invasive to metastatic and help them become resistant to therapy. We are interested in mapping the evolutionary constraints on the diversity of cancer cell phenotypes, and in exploring how these constraints can be exploited to treat heterogeneous tumors (Hausser&Alon, Nature Reviews Cancer 2020).
\n\n\n
Your mission\nOur lab combines a broad spectrum of skills, from experimental to data analysis to theoretical. You will bring in data analysis and theory skills. Your responsibilities will include:
\n\n\n
\n
analyzing large-scale multi-dimensional data, performing evolutionary simulations, building bioinformatics pipelines and developing quantitative theories of tumor architecture
\n
collaborating with lab members
\n
authoring manuscripts and presenting findings at conferences
\n
punctually helping with lab organization
\n
applying for funding to help support your research and prepare your next career step
\n
\n\n\n
Your profile
\n
\nYou bring:
\n\n\n
\n
a PhD degree with strong bioinformatics component
\n
a strong quantitative background, for example in the form of a bachelor or masters in areas such as bioinformatics, physics, engineering, statistics, mathematics, …
\n
experience with large-scale data analysis and multivariate statistics
\n
proficiency in data analysis environments like R or Python, and in scripting (for example linux shell)
\n
\n\n\n
Expertise in the following fields are not absolute requirement but will be appreciated:
\n\n\n
\n
single-cell sequencing technologies
\n
evolutionary theory, population genetics
\n
cancer biology, immunology
\n
\n\n\n
In addition, your personal skills will be highly valued.
\n\n\n
Entry requirements\nThe purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
\n\n\n
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years and can be established for foreign researchers who have obtained a PhD outside Sweden less than 4 years ago.
\n\n\n
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.
\n\n\n
The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.
\n\n\n
Type of scholarship\nThe amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.
\n\n\n
Application process\nPlease submit the following documents in Swedish or English through the Varbi recruitment system only (no direct applications to the supervisor):
\n\n\n
\n
A cover letter (1 page better, 2 pages max.) that includes answers to these questions: What research questions have you worked on so far? What methods have you used to answer these questions? What have you found? If you could choose any topic, what would you like to work on in the future?
\n
A CV, including date of the thesis defense
\n
A list of publications
\n
3 references (name, institution, email)
\n
\n\n\n
We offer:
\n\n\n
\n
Exciting science in a lab uniquely positioned for you to grow as a computational biologist and advance research in an area of direct medical relevance.
\n
A stimulating scientific environment and a leading research infrastructure. KI is among the world's foremost medical universities and KI's faculty awards the Nobel Prize in physiology and medicine. SciLifeLab is the Swedish national center for large-scale molecular bioscience, with stimulating researchers and top facilities in-house.
\n
High life quality. Stockholm consistently tops the rankings of cities with highest quality of life worldwide.
\n
Wide career prospects beyond your postdoc. This postdoc could qualify you to continue doing research as an independent scientist, or to lead computational biology projects in academia or industry (medtech, biotech, pharma).
\n
\n\n\n
Location: Stockholm
\n\n\n
Want to make a difference? The institution, which has around 6,000 students, is located close to the Karolinska University Hospital. The Karolinska Institute’s research spans the whole field of medicine, from basic experimental research to patient-oriented and nursing research. The institution is the single largest conductor of academic medical research in Sweden.

The Karolinska Institute was founded by King Karl XIII in 1810 as an academy for the training of surgeons, after one in three soldiers wounded in a war against Russia died in field hospitals. In 1861, the institution was granted the right to confer degrees and gained a status equal to that of a university. In 1895, Alfred Nobel's will bequeathed the Karolinska Institute the right to select the winner of the Nobel Prize in physiology or medicine.

Since then, five Karolinska Institute researchers have won a Nobel Prize in that category. In 1997, the institution was granted full university status. The institution has two campuses: KI Campus Solna and KI Campus Huddinge, located in the northwest and south of Stockholm respectively. Both campuses are a 10-15 minute walk or train ride from the centre of the city. As well as bachelor’s and master degrees, the Karolinska Institute also offers doctoral degrees. To gain a PhD, students must develop an advanced general knowledge of medical science and scientific methodology, as well as cutting edge scientific skills in the research field they choose to explore in their thesis.
","logoImg":"","logoImgSquare":"https://s3.ap-northeast-2.amazonaws.com/jobs.ac.kr/dev/images/asjkheas_301350749238.png","homepageUrl":"https://ki.se/","infoUrl":"https://www.timeshighereducation.com/world-university-rankings/karolinska-institute","country":"SE","state":"Stockholm","location":"유럽","address":"SE-171 77, Stockholm, Sweden","phoneNumber":"+46 8 524 800 00","faxNumber":"","type":1,"univType1":"대학","univType2":"대학교","univType3":"","univType4":"본교","establishedAt":"1810-01-01T00:00:00.000Z","count_majors":null,"count_students":null,"meta_competitiveness":"","publishState":1,"updatedAt":"2020-04-01T17:42:06.000Z","createdAt":"2020-03-04T20:13:07.000Z","default_1_bannerImage":null,"default_1_bannerImageMobile":null,"default_2_bannerImage":null,"default_2_bannerImageMobile":null,"default_3_bannerImage":null,"default_3_bannerImageMobile":null}}
