As part of the SEA2 program the Coastal Lab has an opening to support storm surge and tsunami wave modeling for quantifying the impacts on built and natural coastal environments. The coastal lab is a multi-disciplinary research focused on reducing the damage and loss of life posed by storm surges and tsunamis through research and more effective mitigation. The work is done with collaborators in the USA, UK, China, Japan and Australia.
\n\n\n
The successful candidate will be expected to modify existing structured and unstructured storm surge and wave models to conduct storm surge and tsunami simulations for historical and predicted events along the coasts of southeast Asian countries and Singapore, to evaluate the numerical schemes to simulate storm surge inundation, to develop real-time forecast capacity of storm surge models, and to integrate the freshwater flooding and storm surge models. The research fellow will be expected to write scientific papers to present research results at international conferences, and identify opportunities and assists in preparing contracts, proposals and documentation for external funding.
\n\n\n
Job Responsibilities
\n\n\n
\n
Computational modeling of extreme sea levels, in particular hydrodynamic modeling of tides, storm surges and river flooding in coastal environments and geospatial analysis in coastal areas.
\n
Assessment of compound flood risk in key southeast Asian cities.
\n
Contribution to the supervision of student projects
\n
Liaising with industry partners and international collaborators
\n
\n\n\n
Job Requirements
\n\n\n
\n
Ph.D. in civil engineering, geography, earth science, natural hazards, computational modelling or a related field
\n
Background and experience in coastal science or engineering and advanced knowledge of numerical modeling techniques
\n
Strong programming skills in Fortran or C/C++ and Python or Matlab
\n
Experience in tsunami or storm surge modelling will be advantageous
\n
\n\n\n
We regret to inform that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
\n\n\n","pdfUrl1":null,"location":"Singapore","location1":"아시아","location2":null,"location3":null,"type":"2","applyUrl":"https://ntu.wd3.myworkdayjobs.com/en-US/Careers/job/NTU-Main-Campus-Singapore/Research-Fellow--Hydrodynamic-Modelling-and-Flood-Risk-_R00003738-1","fileUrl1":null,"fileUrl2":null,"fileUrl3":null,"fileUrl4":null,"fileUrl5":null,"fileUrl6":null,"fileUrl7":null,"workingHour":"Full Time","contractType":"Permanent","salary":null,"original_id":"UNI|230433","original_domain":"https://www.timeshighereducation.com/unijobs","original_url":"https://www.timeshighereducation.com/unijobs/listing/230433/research-fellow-hydrodynamic-modelling-and-flood-risk/?LinkSource=PremiumListing","original_isPremium":"true","closeType":2,"closedAt":null,"requireEducation":0,"managerTel":null,"managerFax":null,"managerEmail":null,"managerName":"NANYANG TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY","managerPhone":null,"managerAddress":null,"log_hit":0,"log_like":0,"publishState":1,"organizationName":null,"organizationName_en":null,"organizationName_alt":null,"createdAt":"2020-10-21T00:00:00.000Z","updatedAt":"2020-10-21T20:37:34.000Z"},"organization":{"organizationId":507,"lv1Id":null,"lv2Id":null,"name":"Nanyang Technological University, Singapore","name_en":"Technological University","name_alt":",Nanyang Technological University,NANYANG TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY,","introduction":"
A research-intensive public university, NTU Singapore has 33,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students in the colleges of Engineering, Business, Science, and Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, and at its Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine which was established jointly with Imperial College London.

Named the world’s fastest-rising young university by Times Higher Education, Nanyang Technological University (NTU Singapore) is also one of the youngest in the global league of universities.

Its 200-hectare (500 acres) garden campus has frequently been named among the Top 15 most beautiful in the world.
