As Yale moves forward its initiatives outlined as part of the university’s science strategy we are looking to enhance and strengthen our competitiveness across limited, internal and other special funding opportunities.</p>\n\n\n<p><strong>The Program Manager, Funding Opportunities will:</strong></p>\n\n\n<p>Identify new and recurring limited submissions or special funding opportunities and communicate these opportunities to the Yale community.\nEnhance our competitiveness by executing and improving existing strategies related to selecting our best internal candidates and teams. This requires working with science leaders from the Vice Provost for Research team as well as deans of research across the university.\nBuild on and enhance our training curriculum to increase strategic proposal development skills for faculty, postdocs, staff and students.\nProvide support in the development and preparation of select large or strategically important proposals.\nBe a key point of contact and communicator related to these opportunities.\nGenerally, support and enhance our ability to compete in this area.</p>\n\n\n<p><strong>Essential Duties</strong></p>\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Strengthen Yale’s competitiveness by identifying new opportunities for limited submissions. </li>\n<li>Enhance competitiveness by working with leadership to develop and implement better approaches to promoting and selecting the most competitive internal and external award applicants.</li>\n<li>Become knowledgeable on major initiatives to appropriately align efforts to Yale’s areas of focus. </li>\n<li>Execute and enhance review processes for sponsored awards including, but not limited to, the Scholar Awards Program, Browne-Cox Fellowship, and other external programs with limitations on the number of applications Yale may submit (collectively \"limited submissions\") as well as internal funding competitions and special opportunities. </li>\n<li>Identify, maintain and proactively disseminate information related to external sponsorship of research and training activities for which Yale may submit a limited number of applications and other identified opportunities and keep processes to the defined timelines.</li>\n<li>In coordination with other offices and leadership on campus, establish, maintain and enhance an institutional software tool for managing limited submissions, internal funding opportunities, special opportunities that are offered at the institutional and unit level.</li>\n<li>Work with the Office of Sponsored Projects and the Vice Provost for Research teams in developing and maintaining a communication plan for proposal submissions targeted to multiple constituencies both within and external to Yale University. </li>\n<li>Manage and enhance new and existing training to increase strategic proposal development skills for multiple audiences including faculty, postdocs, staff and students. </li>\n<li>Develop annual reporting with goal to improve overall funding metrics.</li>\n<li>Staff and provide support for the University Scholar Awards; Funds and Fellowships; and External Recognitions Committees and for ad hoc review committees as requested.</li>\n<li>In consultation with the VPR team and as needed, assist in professional editing of select, high-stakes proposals.</li>\n<li>Coordinating with the Office of Development and the Provost research team, serve as primary liaison with appropriate funding agencies for policy and procedural matters related to these limited programs including but not limited to special authorizations for submission and post award processes.</li>\n<li>Consult with appropriate University personnel on program matching commitments and exceptions to University policy.</li>\n<li>Perform additional functions, activities or projects as assigned.</li>\n</ol>\n\n\n<p><strong>Required Education and Experience</strong></p>\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Bachelor's degree, with a minimum of four (4) years related professional/managerial work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.</li>\n<li>Knowledge of or operated in a sponsor funded environment.</li>\n</ol>\n\n\n<p><strong>Required Skill/Ability 1:</strong></p>\n\n\n<p>Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with outstanding customer service orientation. Scientific writing and editorial skills.</p>\n\n\n<p><strong>Required Skill/Ability 2:</strong></p>\n\n\n<p>Strong self-starter with an ability to work independently to advance initiatives.</p>\n\n\n<p><strong>Required Skill/Ability 3:</strong></p>\n\n\n<p>Ability to work well under deadlines without sacrificing accuracy or customer service. Ability to handle a complex portfolio of work in an intensive multi-tasking environment.</p>\n\n\n<p><strong>Required Skill/Ability 4:</strong></p>\n\n\n<p>Exceptional attention to detail. Well-developed organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.</p>\n\n\n<p><strong>Required Skill/Ability 5:</strong></p>\n\n\n<p>Knowledge of the sponsored proposal opportunity identification and development.</p>\n\n\n<p><strong>Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:</strong></p>\n\n\n<p>PhD in research field. Experience managing processes and communication. Working knowledge of communication planning and techniques and educational program design and development. Knowledge of Yale financial and administrative policies & procedures relating to sponsored programs. W. Bush, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. Twenty Yale alumni have won Nobel prizes, including economist Paul Krugman, while 32 have won the Pulitzer Prize.</p><p> </p><p>Other notable alumni include US secretaries of state Hillary Clinton and John Kerry, and actress Meryl Streep.</p><p> </p><p>Yale’s campus includes many famous buildings, such as the Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library, the Peabody Museum of Natural History and the Sterling Memorial Library.</p><p> </p><p>New Haven is a city of about 130,000 people, located two and a half hours south of Boston, and an hour and a half north of New York.
