{"job":{"jobId":1477311,"fk_accountId":null,"fk_organizationId":462,"fk_adminAccountId":null,"title":"LOCKSS Software Developer","description":"\n\n<p><strong>JOB PURPOSE:</strong></p>\n\n\n<p>The LOCKSS Program makes the award-winning distributed digital preservation LOCKSS software platform, used widely by libraries and publishers to preserve and provide persistent, authoritative access to digital content. It is a core part of the portfolio of open-source digital library software supported by Stanford Libraries in collaboration with the broader community. Stanford Libraries’ efforts on these fronts are recognized internationally, and have a major programmatic impact on the operations of libraries and repositories worldwide. </p>\n\n\n<p>The LOCKSS Program is seeking a software developer to act as a solutions engineer. The LOCKSS Software Developer is responsible for proposing, implementing and maintaining software solutions and middleware in response to a variety of externally- and internally-focused business needs. They adapt and extend the LOCKSS plugin framework and LOCKSS software to meet Web preservation and data processing challenges encountered with specific publishing platforms and content providers. They maintain and extend existing tools, and devise and develop new tools, to assist in the processing of content and reporting of holdings. They contribute software and process documentation, participate in development and project planning, and serve as a technical resource for the core engineering and applied preservation services teams with respect to tools and middleware.</p>\n\n\n<p><strong>CORE DUTIES:</strong></p>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Conceptualize design, implement, and develop solutions for complex systems/programs independently.</li>\n<li>Work with a variety of users to gain information, and develop intra-system tradeoffs between different users, as necessary; interact with a diverse client base and outside vendor contacts.</li>\n<li>Document system builds and application configurations; maintain and update documentation as needed.</li>\n<li>Provide technical analysis, design, development, conversion, and implementation work.</li>\n<li>Work as a project leader, as needed, for projects of moderate complexity. </li>\n<li>Serve as a technical resource for applications.</li>\n<li>Compare, evaluate, and implement new features and technologies, and integrate them into the computing environment.</li>\n<li>Follow team software development methodology.</li>\n<li>Mentor lower level software developers.</li>\n</ul>\n\n\n<p><strong>MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:</strong></p>\n\n\n<p><strong>Education & Experience:</strong></p>\n\n\n<p>Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.</p>\n\n\n<p><strong>Relevant Experience May Include:</strong></p>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Experience in the areas of digital preservation, Web archiving, digital libraries, or scholarly communications.</li>\n</ul>\n\n\n<p><strong>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:</strong></p>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Expertise in designing, developing, testing, and deploying applications.</li>\n<li>Proficiency with application design and data modeling.</li>\n<li>Ability to define and solve logical problems for highly technical applications.</li>\n<li>Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical clients. </li>\n<li>Ability to lead activities on structured team development projects.</li>\n<li>Ability to select, adapt, and effectively use a variety of programming methods.</li>\n<li>Knowledge of application domain. </li>\n</ul>\n\n\n<p><strong>Relevant Knowledge, Skills and Abilities May Include:</strong></p>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Strong general Java software development skills.</li>\n<li>Strong general Python software development skills.</li>\n<li>Proficiency with shell scripting.</li>\n<li>Proficiency with Django application development.</li>\n<li>Good working knowledge of Linux/Unix environments and tools.</li>\n<li>Good working knowledge of SQL databases. </li>\n</ul>\n\n\n<p><strong>Physical Requirements*:</strong></p>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.</li>\n<li>Frequently sit, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.</li>\n<li>Occasionally stand/walk, writing by hand.</li>\n<li>Rarely use a telephone, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.</li>\n</ul>\n\n\n<p>* - Consistent with its obligations under the law, the University will provide reasonable accommodation to any employee with a disability who requires accommodation to perform the essential functions of the job.</p>\n\n\n<p><strong>Working Conditions:</strong></p>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>May work extended hours, evening, and weekends.</li>\n</ul>\n\n\n<p><strong>Work Standards:</strong></p>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrates the ability to work well with Stanford colleagues and clients and with external organizations.</li>\n<li>Promote Culture of Safety: Demonstrates commitment to personal responsibility and value for safety; communicates safety concerns; uses and promotes safe behaviors based on training and lessons learned.</li>\n<li>Subject to and expected to comply with all applicable University policies and procedures, including but not limited to the personnel policies and other policies found in the University's Administrative Guide, http://adminguide.stanford.edu. </li>\n</ul>\n\n\n<p>The job duties listed are typical examples of work performed by positions in this job classification and are not designed to contain or be interpreted as a comprehensive inventory of all duties, tasks, and responsibilities.
