The University has 40 000 students and more than 8 000 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.
\n\n\n
The Faculty of Science conducts research and education within Biology, Astronomy, Physics, Geosciences, Chemistry, Mathematics and Environmental Sciences. The Faculty is organized into nine departments, gathered in the northern campus area. The Faculty has approximately 1500 students, 330 PhD students and 700 employees.
\n\n\n
The Centre for Environmental and Climate Research, CEC (http://www.cec.lu.se) conducts research, education and communication on environmental science and climate research at Lund University.
\n\n\n
We now have an open Researcher position in environmental science, with focus on aquatic ecology and ecoimmunology.
\n\n\n
Effects of invasive species on the Hanöbukten bay and Baltic Sea ecosystems - threats and opportunities
\n\n\n
The ecosystem of the Baltic Sea is in many ways unique, where many of the species have local adaptations to their surroundings. But this sensitive environment is increasingly threatened, by e.g. climate changes, pollution and invasive species. An invasive species is defined as a species that has spread to new ecosystems where it establishes itself and causes extensive disruptions in the ecosystem. For example, one major recent concern is the spread and migration of the round goby (Neogobius melanostomus), a bottom-living fish originating from the Black and Caspian seas. Invasive species can in the near future lead to extensive ecological changes in the already sensitive area in the southern Baltic Sea, but there is today limited knowledge of how these sensitive systems will react to the new species.
\n\n\n
We are seeking a person who can work in an ongoing research project on the spread of invasive species in aquatic environments, which includes mapping of fish communities in coastal and river environments, habitat requirements for invasive species in marine environments and dispersal possibilities to river habitats influenced by management actions and climate change. The postdoc will be part of an interdisciplinary research environment with expert knowledge in ecological processes, modeling, water resource engineering and policy work.
\n\n\n
The goal is that the results will directly contribute to the management of coastal habitats and ecosystems, and in the long term the sustainable use of their ecosystem services. In addition, communication with decision makers and local authorities in the region is an important part of the project.
\n\n\n
Duties
\n\n\n
The work consists of field work, experimental studies and laboratory work, including molecular genetic and bioinformatics analyses of immune genes.
\n\n\n
The field work includes both traditional fish surveys and collection of water samples from different areas along the Hanöbukten bay and connected rivers for eDNA analysis.
\n\n\n
The laboratory analyses focus on developing and validating methods for eDNA, environmental DNA barcoding, a new technology that makes it possible to survey species presence in aquatic environments.
\n\n\n
Qualifications
\n\n\n
Requirements
\n\n\n
\n
PhD or equivalent research qualification within the subject of the position (ecology, molecular biology or environmental science). A background in other research fields could also be considered if directly relevant for the position.
\n
Documented experience in molecular techniques for biological monitoring, such as eDNA and metabarcoding, and also molecular genetic and bioinformatic analyses.
\n
Very good knowledge of English, in both spoken and written terms.
\n
Good documented ability to develop and perform high quality research, preferably across traditional subject boundaries.
\n
Very good ability to compile and write scientific text.
\n
\n\n\n
Meriting
\n\n\n
Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within CEC, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.
\n\n\n
Terms of employment
\n\n\n
This is a temporary position for 14 months.
\n\n\n
Instructions on how to apply
\n\n\n
Applications shall be written in English and be compiled into a PDF-file containing:
\n\n\n
\n
résumé/CV, including a list of publications,
\n
a general description of past research and future research interests (no more than three pages),
\n
contact information of at least two references,
\n
copy of the doctoral degree certificate, and other certificates/grades that you wish to be considered.
\n
please do not send us any original documents, unless we ask for them.
\n
\n\n\n
Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset. We kindly decline all sales and marketing contacts.
\n\n\n","pdfUrl1":null,"location":"Lund (Stad), Skåne (SE)","location1":"유럽","location2":null,"location3":null,"type":"2","applyUrl":"https://lu.varbi.com/en/what:job/jobID:356676/type:job/where:4/apply:1","fileUrl1":null,"fileUrl2":null,"fileUrl3":null,"fileUrl4":null,"fileUrl5":null,"fileUrl6":null,"fileUrl7":null,"workingHour":"Full Time","contractType":"Fixed Term","salary":null,"original_id":"UNI|230683","original_domain":"https://www.timeshighereducation.com/unijobs","original_url":"https://www.timeshighereducation.com/unijobs/listing/230683/researcher-in-environmental-science-at-cec-/","original_isPremium":"false","closeType":2,"closedAt":null,"requireEducation":0,"managerTel":"","managerFax":null,"managerEmail":null,"managerName":"LUND UNIVERSITY","managerPhone":null,"managerAddress":null,"log_hit":4,"log_like":0,"publishState":1,"organizationName":null,"organizationName_en":null,"organizationName_alt":null,"createdAt":"2020-10-22T00:00:00.000Z","updatedAt":"2020-10-22T20:16:20.000Z"},"organization":{"organizationId":554,"lv1Id":null,"lv2Id":null,"name":"Lund University","name_en":"Lund University","name_alt":",","introduction":"
Founded in 1666, Lund University is a public research university in Sweden that consistently ranks among the world’s top universities.

Located in the city of Lund, in southern Sweden (close to Denmark and Germany), the university also has campuses in Malmö and Helsingborg.

Home to over 41,000 students, 3,000 of them postgraduate, and more than 7,000 staff, it is considered to be one of the biggest Nordic educational and research institutions.

It also boasts one of Scandinavia’s most extensive educational programmes, with over 300 degree programmes and 2,000 courses.
