Expertise and experience are sought in chemical engineering or closely related discipline, in particular in the field of Process design, -modelling, -control and -optimisation. The position will be closely associated with multidisciplinary research related to application of concept of process design, -modelling, -control and -optimisation in sustainable environment and water utilisation processes, sustainable and efficient energy processes, engineering, and advanced and applied materials.</p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>RESPONSIBILITIES:</strong></p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">It will be expected of the successful candidate to:</p>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Teach core modules in chemical engineering (e.g. process control, process dynamics, process synthesis, multivariable control system theory and design, model-based control laboratory, modelling and optimisation, etc) at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the Department;</li>\n<li>Supervise final year undergraduate project students and postgraduate Honours, Masters and PhD students conducting research activities in process systems engineering, process control, modelling and optimisation, multivariable control system theory and design, artificial intelligence with applications in chemical engineering processes;</li>\n<li>Lead a research unit focusing on the application of concept of process systems engineering, process control, modelling and optimisation, multivariable control system theory and design, artificial intelligence in sustainable environment and water utilisation processes, sustainable and efficient energy processes, engineering, and advanced and applied materials and publish in leading accredited journals in the field;</li>\n<li>Raise and manage additional funding from national and international funding agencies and industry to support his/her research activities and that of the group/unit he/she associates within the Department;</li>\n<li>Expand existing research programmes or initiate new research programmes in process systems engineering, process control, modelling and optimisation, multivariable control system theory and design, artificial intelligence;</li>\n<li>Perform assigned departmental duties (e.g. of an administrative nature).</li>\n</ul>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:</strong></p>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>Associate Professor</strong></p>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>A BEng/BSc(Eng.) degree in Chemical Engineering/Electrical Engineering/Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline from a university of which the undergraduate programme is registrable with ECSA;</li>\n<li>A Masters’ degree in Chemical Engineering/Electrical Engineering/Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline with a focus on process systems engineering, process control instrumentation Engineering, process modelling and optimisation, that follows on the previous qualification; </li>\n<li>A PhD degree in in Chemical Engineering/Electrical Engineering/Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline with a focus on process systems engineering, process control instrumentation Engineering, process modelling and optimisation that follows on the previous qualification;</li>\n<li>Expertise and research experience in the application of concept of process design, -modelling, -control and -optimisation in environmental engineering, sustainable energy processes and advanced and applied materials;</li>\n<li>At least six years’ experience at a tertiary academic institution or industry related experience</li>\n<li>A record of previous undergraduate and postgraduate teaching experience, including supervision of Masters and/or Doctoral students (at least 2 PhD candidates and at least 5 MEng/MSc candidates supervised to completion);</li>\n<li>A well-established and nationally-recognised research record supported by publications in high quality peer reviewed journals;</li>\n</ul>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>Professor</strong></p>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Same as for Associate Professor, plus;</li>\n<li>At least eight years’ experience at a tertiary academic institution or industry related experience;</li>\n<li>A record of previous undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching experience, including graduation of Doctoral students (at least 5 PhD candidates and at least 10 MEng/MSc candidates supervised to completion);</li>\n<li>A well-established and internationally-recognised research record supported by publications in high quality peer reviewed journals.</li>\n</ul>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\"><strong>ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:</strong></p>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Evidence of teaching experience and excellence in tertiary academic institution (at least 6 years);</li>\n<li>Preference will be given to candidates who have teaching and research expertise that complement the Department’s needs;</li>\n<li>Related industry work or consulting experience;</li>\n<li>Candidates registered or registerable as Professional Engineer with ECSA;</li>\n<li>NRF rating/equivalent or have applied for one.</li>\n</ul>\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 20px; font-family: san-serif;\">The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines.
